SigTune is a useful little utility which combines the concept of the
SIGnature and the program forTUNE into one. It allows you to insert
a randomly-selected quote or other phrase into your .signature for
each post. A simple little program, but I thought it was a good idea.
The only real use for it I can think of is with Amiga UUCP, however
I've approached Matt Dillon about distributing it with the package and
he was not interested. SO, since my UUCP setup has been down for
about two months from some mysterious bug I can't find, I'm posting it
here in hopes that SOMEONE will get some use out of it! It was written
mostly as an exercise to get me used to C again after not using it for
a while, and I KNOW there are better ways to do what I've done but I
did some of the things the hard way on purpose. V2.0 will be done
"better" - faster, and smaller, for a start, but I wanted to create a
little extra work for myself for the practice. It is clean and bug-free,
so far as I know, and source is included along with some examples and a
"man" page just for kicks. I compiled with Lattice/SAS C v5.05.
I've released it into the public domain, because it's really very
simple to implement. I would appreciate comments, or at least a
note saying that you find it useful so I won't think I've wasted my
time (when I was writing it, my UUCP setup was running, see...). Also,
I am hoping that by putting a program here, the DISCUSSION thread will
stop! If I can't think of anything else to write (I'm learning the
innards of the Amiga quite nicely, but can't think of anything to DO!!)
I'll take SigTune even farther than 2.0 with maybe a built-in editor
to add quotes, and perhaps a little Tetris game that runs in a WB window
just to pass the time...
Below is the uuencoded ZOO archive of SigTune v1.0 - enjoy. There's
nothing at the bottom so you can just clip this crud off here at the
top. Distribute it around, tell your friends.
