Protect-O-Matic 1.2
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Protect-O-Matic (PM) is a Utility program for setting the protection
bits of files from WorkBench. As far as I know it's the only program that
allows this. The best way to learn to use PM is to examine the file
show.me while reading this text. However, this is not necessary, you could
just run PM and see almost the same picture. If you want to use the
show.me file, I've included the PD utility 'ushow' in the archive to make
this easily possible. it's usage is simply:
ushow [filename]
Looking at the picture, you will see, on the left side the window 5 lines
of HSPARWED... these gadgets represent the protection flags. If they are
red, then the flag is set. Click on the letter to change the flag.
Moving to the right, are the filenames. Directories will appear red here,
and the Directory name may be clicked on to enter the sub-directory.
On the left of that are what I call the DO_IT buttons. When these are
hit, the protection flags of the file are changed, if necessary, to match
those on the display.
On the left of the DO_IT buttons are the scrolling gadgets for scrolling
through the list of filenames.
Along the bottom are the gadgets which change the current path that PM is
looking at. Most are self-explanitory with the exception of the '*'
gadget. This gadget will re-read the current path. PM remembers any
changes made to the protection flags even while scrolled off the screen.
The '/' gadget will go to the parent directory if one exists.
To the right of the Path gadgets, are the last two. 'WRITE ALL' changes
the protection flags on all files in the directory (also, if necessary) to
match those of the buffer. Lastly, ICONIFY will iconify the program to the
upper left corner of the WorkBench screen. PM will remember where the icon
is if you move it, and it will also put the window back into it's last
location. This frees up any memory allocated to the directory listings,
and generally reduces memory usage by about 10k. To get back into PM, just
double-click the
icon.

Release Notes...
At this time, I know of no bugs in PM, however, if you find any I surely
would like to know.
