AntiFlicker Translation
-----------------------
This translation of the "AntiFlicker" documentation from German was done
by Steve Pietrowicz, one of the sysops of the AmigaForums on CompuServe.
I translated as much as I could. Feel free to copy this far and wide (as
it is the authors wish), but please leave this notice here because it took
a while to do and I want credit for the work I did.
Thanks to SD Kaplin for the notes at the end of this translation.
Thanks for a nice program Nicolas!!

Instructions
------------
Everyone has already tried to
Easiest way:
---------------
Set Interlace Mode in Preferences. The Workbench screen size will be 640x512
(or 704x548 in OverScan mode).
Advantage: No cost, easy to do
Disadvantage: unbearable interlace flicker, requires memory
Better way:
-----------
Buy yourself a FlickerFlicker graphics card along with a Multisync-Monitor
Advantage: No flicker, even in Interlace
Disadvantage: The cost can be more than your whole Amiga. Naturally, the
bigger screen requires memory, but real snobs don't have
money problems and can get memory expansions...
Another Way:
-----------
With MegaWB the Workbench can be made bigger. You can see part of the
Workbench, and you can scroll around in it.
Advantage: No cost, no flicker
Disadvantage: Sometimes the screen gets screwed up. MegaWb also requires
a lot of memory.
AntiFlicker
-----------
AntiFlicker is a software solution to minimize the flicker in interlace mode.
[ This next part was a little fuzzy...I left it out...sorry ]
Installation
------------
1) Copy "AntiFlicker" to your C: directory.
2) Add one of the following to your startup sequence:
"runback c:antiflicker" (for monochrome)
"runback c:antiflicker -c" (for color)
3) Set your preferences to Interlace mode
4) Reboot.
Fonts ?
-------
In Interlace mode the standard Topaz-8 font is unreadable. Use bigger fonts
to get better results.
----------------------------------
Have fun with the big Workbench
Bene.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notes in English from S. D. Kapplin:
I do not read German well, but have figured out that if you use a
four color workbench, then use the command line syntax of:
run antiflicker -c
If you want a one-bitplane (black and white) workbench, then use
the syntax of:
run antiflicker
To turn off use the EXACT same command used to turn it on. You
must have Interlace ON and your colors selected using Preferences
BEFORE running AntiFlicker. Once AntiFlicker is running you
CANNOT change colors. AntiFlicker apparently only affects the
WorkBench screen. It will have NO effect on programs which open
their own custom screens, but WILL effect all programs which open
on the WorkBench screen.
You will note that AntiFlicker performs some sort of antialiasing which
blends the workbench colors. You will need to experiment with the
colors that meet your likes, yet are readable. I use the following
setup in Preferences:
Color 0 888 Medium Gray
Color 1 000 Black
Color 2 BBB Off White
Color 3 900 Darkish Red
These seem to provide a reasonable pleasant display, relatively
free of flicker and don't conflict too badly with other program
displays.
If someone has (or can do) a better translation of these docs to English,
please post them in CompuServe's AmigaTech Forum.
