* STAR TREK: THE S.E.U.C.K. GAME *
* *
* created sometime in late November 1989 *
*********************************************************************
In order for the game to work properly you must use the E command for
lharc, as:
LHARC -x E TREK
The switch -x is extremely important. This will create the
appropriate directory (EDIT_FILES) where the title screen and the game
itself must be kept. I have encountered no problem running this game
from a RAM disk or from the hard disk as long as the directory
EDIT_FILES is located within the current directory. IF YOU DID NOT
USE THE -x SWITCH, PLEASE LHARC THE FILE AGAIN! You should find the
following files:
trek.readme ---------- what you are reading now
trek ----------------- the loader program
trek.info ------------ icon for the loader
the logo ------------- S.E.U.C.K. logo screen
edit_files/trek ------ the title screen
edit_files/trek.all -- the actual game itself
Feel free to distribute the archive file TREK.LZH all you want, but
please be sure all the files mentioned above remain INTACT in the
archive.
This is STAR TREK: The Arcade Game (no relation whatsoever to the SEGA
classic, mind you!). Star Trek is, of course, a registered trade mark
of Paramount which is a division of Gulf & Western. I created this in
a few weekends with the Shoot'Em Up Constructions Kit. It is entirely
my own creation (beyond some of the shapes which I blatantly copied
from the original TV series), except for one sampled sound I got off
the Star Trek IV Compact Disk. I think you can figure out which one
it is rather easily.
The game itself is quite simple. There are 10 levels and you are to
shoot at anything that moves! Only two things in this game will not
harm you: 1) Star Bases (those big ugly green things with blinking
lights); and 2) dilithium crystals which you will find near some of the
planets. Everything else is extremely harmful to your well-being. A
few things cannot be destroyed at all. Some others may take more than
one hit. Be on the alert at all times!
To play, just put a joystick in port 2 and click on the icon. If all
the files are where they should be, you will eventually get to the
title screen. Just press the fire button and start dodging
projectiles and enemy ships.
Should you die, or (heaven forbid!) grow weary of playing, you may
quit in one of two ways. First, while in the game, just click BOTH
mouse buttons, which should stop the game and return you to the
workbench. Otherwise, while the title screen is showing, move the
mouse pointer to the upper left and click the LEFT mouse button. That
will get you back to the workbench as well.
I spent a lot of time making this game. It is tough (very tough in
places!), but I don't think there are any bugs floating around (except
those inherent in the S.E.U.C.K. system itself, but since it's all
I've got right now, and I'm too lazy to program this the proper way, I
guess I'll just have to make do). Should you encounter any serious
problems, please let me know. If possible, I will fix the game and
release the improved version.
If you like this game, you might consider sending a small donation (no
more than $5.00, please) to me at the address below. That might
provide that extra incentive to finish the other S.E.U.C.K. games I've
gotten started on.
Send bugs reports or money(!!!) to:
