  25. 1-  MANUAL CARACTERISTICS :

  27. AZ Manual has been worked out to be read and searched in AZ itself,
  28. so it's organized a particular way .
  29.

  31.     1.1-  The Manual is a directory :
  32.     Better than a single file, it's a bunch of 5 files in the directory
  33.     "Manual" : each of them is fast to load, easy to handle.
  34.

  36.     1.2-  Distribution of Informations :
  37.     It may seem a bit strange, but there are some ideas behind that :
  38.  
  39.         1.2.1- Frequency of use :
  40.         is taken into account, to avoid loading of rarely read
  41.         informations  along with those often needed, ie the whole
  42.         History with the Manual itself.
  43.  
  44.         1.2.2- Easy reading :
  45.         Taking advantage of AZ multi-windows, browsing thru a file
  46.         can be made easier when guided by another file, available in
  47.         a second window, ie Manual and Summary.

  49.         1.2.3- Different maintenance cycles :
  50.         make separate files, to limit the number of modified files
  51.         to a minimum in each new release.

  54.     1.3-  Redundancy of informations :
  55.     Will help avoid the most predictable drawback of this type
  56.     of documentation : having to wander endlessly from one file
  57.     to another.

  60.     1.4-  References :
  61.     The Manual file is referenced using line numbers as guide marks,
  62.     making simple to go from one topic to another using "Go To Line #",
  63.     at least as long as you don't edit the Manual.

  66.     1.5-  Maintenance :
  67.     The modular conception of the documentation should help keeping up
  68.     with  Jean-Michel FORGEAS' devilish rythm : there has been 25 upgrades
  69.     of AZ between August 88 and January 90 !
  70.     Each new version will be available with a complete documentation
  71.     (for newcomers to AZ) as well as patches to apply to the previous
  72.     version files, along with a script. The patch software will come
  73.     with AZ next version.
