" Nuclear Mystical Portrait of Salvador Dali', appearing over the
Calm of Port Ligot, among his Elements"
Also known as "Homage to Dali'"
....Louis Markoya 1/1/90
Salvador Dali' 1904-1989, served as the illegitimate father of my
artistic desires. I worked with him during the years 1970-76 on a
wide variety of projects, from "normal" media (oils, watercolor,
charcoal, etc.) to holograms, stereoscopic paintings and flying fried
egg models, which, by the way, actually flew.
This picture is in his honor. Dali appears in the manner of his
Nuclear Mystical period, the precursor and evolutionary step to the
present science of chaos. He is surrounded by the objects he most
loved, and used with his paranoiac critical method. It is centered
on the spot found just outside his home in Spain and appears in
many of his paintings. The boat is his wife's, who appears on the
banner behind the crutch and soft watch.
For you ray tracing enthusiasts, this is a Turbo Silver SV trace.
Done on an Amiga 2000, with Ronin 020/881 card and 6 megs of
RAM (2 32bit megs) The CELL size was 1,325,897bytes, the trace
time was 47hrs, 13 min. The long trace time could be attributed to
the close proximity of several objects to the camera, and
maintaining their desired size. This caused these to be VERY small,
increasing trace times dramatically.
All that you see is a ray trace, the picture of Gala, Dali's wife,
was mapped on the flag/banner to match the same object as it
appeared in the Dali' painting, "The Discovery of America by
Christopher Columbus". The landscape of Port Ligot was first
approximated using Terrain, then fine tuned within Silver. It was
mapped with a low res IFF map done in Deluxe Paint to match the
coloring found at that local...( and match the coloring of Dali'
paintings of the same scene.)
The Face object is comprised of a grid of about 1100 Glossy
spheres, some with wings, to add to the appearance of the much
loved Dali object flies. Within the grid of spheres is found an egg,
object of euclidian perfection and again, a much used image by
Dali'. The objects in the sky to the left of the trace are Dalinian
Rhinoceros Horns, objects of both sexual and chaotic importance.
The trace and its objects was composed and completed over a seven
month period in which I worked on it part time, beyond other
projects. It represents my most complex and intricate 3D work as
of yet. The image fully copyrighted but is freely distributable over
electronic media as long as this file is kept intact.
