Video-Librarian is a specialized database program designed to keep
track of video tape collections. It will allow you to view or print out
information sorted by Title, Star, Subject, or a combination. It will
also search for specified text and display any records in which it is
found. Multiple libraries can be maintained as separate files, and it
can also print up labels for the video tapes showing the tape number
and the titles of up to five programs per tape.
It will (currently) hold up to 999 records, with each record describing
one program. There are nine fields in each record, here is a description
of each:
Field Length Description Forced To Example
----- ------ ----------- --------- -------
Title 20 Name of program Must be present The Searchers
Sort Title 8 Optional sorting field Capitals SEARCHER
Subject 8 Type of program Capitals WESTERN
Star 18 Leading performer Wayne,John
CoStar 18 Another performer Wood,Natalie
Color 1 Yes or No for color Y or blank Y
Stereo 1 Yes or No for stereo Y or blank
Description 30 Program Synopsis Indians take girl
Tape 3 Video tape number 3 digit numeric 001
If no sort title is entered the program will derive it from the title
field. Color and stereo accept 'y' or 'Y' as yes, anything else is no and
will show up as a blank on all displays. More than one program can have
the same tape number, but the tape labels only have room for five, so
thats the most that will be printed there. Other reports will show the
proper number regardless.
To use the Edit or Delete functions you must know the record number of
the record involved. The best way to find this out is to use Search to
find the program. The record number is part of the Search display. You
can Search for any text in the record including the tape number since
all fields are checked.
The only field which is required to create a record is the title, but
the data won't be much help without a little more info, like the number
of the tape it is on.
To load the sample data press the right mousebutton and select Open
from the Project Menu. Erase MOVIES (the default file name) from the
requester and type in SAMPLE. It will load the sample data and then
you can select other options like View, Print, Edit, Delete, Etc. to
see how the program functions.
To create your own library select New (unless it is de-activated) and
then Enter. Fill in the data in the requester and then click OKAY. The
program will automatically capitalize the Sort title and Subject fields,
and it will turn anything non-numeric in the Tape field into a zero.
Repeat this until you have all data entered, then select Save to save
your library as MOVIES or Save As to give it a file name of your own
choice.
The program stores its data already sorted by Title, so it can display
it that way immediatly. To display it sorted another way may take a few
seconds longer depending on how many records there are to sort.
When no records have been loaded or Entered the only menu choices
available will be Open, Enter, and Quit. When records are in memory Open
will become unavailable. New clears out memory and makes Open available
again.
Selecting the With Descriptions option during the View or Print
operations causes the program to display records with the Description
field instead of the Star and CoStar. Since the Star is not displayed
the Sort By Star option is disabled.
