- IFFCR and IFFL
- Crunch and Show ILBM/IFF Art Files
- Programs by A. J. Brouwer
- ----------------------------------
-
- IFFCr will crunch an ILBM/IFF art file to about 60 to 66 percent its
- original size. That's byte size, not the screen size of the art.
- IFFL will display the crunched picture file.
- The syntax for IFFCr as it is set up on this disk:
-
- iffcr [sourcefilename] to [targetfilename]
-
- You will be asked to type a crunch speed number from 1 to 9 as prelude
- for the crunching work. The higher the number, the less time is taken to
- crunch and the less efficient the program is. Lower numbers produce longer
- crunch time and more efficiency. However, in tests we've found the
- extra bytes saved are often not worth the exceedingly long time required to
- crunch. So enter a 9 to start your own experiments.
- IFFCr creates a newly-named crunched version and does not destroy the
- old, uncrunched version.
-
- The syntax for IFFL, which displays the compacted screen with no loss
- of original quality:
-
- iffl [filename]
-
- It takes a while to crunch a picture, so be patient. The display
- program, however, is quicker.
- Be warned that a crunched file can only be shown by IFFL, so don't lose
- the original file, should you wish to access it in traditional ways.
