This file tells a little more about the Atredes/Skypix demo term 1.1.
This new version supports X, Y and ZMODEM up and downloading and has a
phonebook, chat buffer, capture buffer, ASCII file transmission and
automatic password transmission. It supports all the Skypix features of
Atredes 1.1 including the Gadget specification. The phonebook contains a
few numbers of Atredes-based systems; for more, consult The Final List.
NOTE before you dial that these numbers are all over the country, and
indeed several other countries as well.
TO OPERATE THE TERMINAL:
Put all the files from the archive in the same directory and change to
that directory. Install PEARL.FONT in your fonts directory. Select
PHONEBOOK from the CONTROL menu. You will see a list of phone numbers; you
can scroll through them, add new ones, etc. To dial one of the numbers,
select the GO gadget next to its name. If the dialing command is correct
for your setup you will be automatically connected. (If you have pulse
dialing only, change the modem string accordingly.) To use the automatic
password feature, first click on the name of the board, then enter your
password for that board in the password gadget. The terminal will store
passwords for all the systems you call, which can then be transmitted with
a menu item or a control-key combination (right-Amiga-P).
The terminal itself should be pretty self-explanatory. You must make an
assignment for TMP: wherever you want your ZMODEM downloads to appear. Y
and ZMODEM multiple uploads can use * to upload a whole directory, or any
other wild cards to match file names within a directory.
At the last second, an experimental setting of 19200 was provided for HST
modems. THIS HAS NOT BEEN TESTED! If you have trouble with this setting
exit the program and use a lower baud rate.
ABOUT SKYPIX
Skypix is a way of sending graphics, fonts, brushes and soon music over the
phone line via modem. It is an extension of ANSI that takes advantage of
the Amiga's graphic power. Keep in mind when calling these boards that many
of them may as yet make minimal use of Skypix, due to lack of a decent
Skypix terminal until now. Rumors abound of installation of Skypix into
other popular terminals as well.
Only ATREDES BBS systems have Skypix graphics. You will be asked at logon
if you want Skypix. Answer YES. Many sysops scatter their creations around
the board; some isolate them in a text area. The graphics work
automatically. If in doubt, ask the SYSOP.
At this writing (May 24) most of the systems listed will still be running
Atredes 1.0, a much less sophisticated system than 1.1. The update is in
the hands of the publisher and these boards will likely be converting to
1.1 in a matter of days.
If you see something that looks like a standard Intuition gadget or a
button of some kind in a system running Atredes 1.1, it might be one.
Skypix supports a "gadget" specification that you can select with your
mouse at menus, etc. Systems running 1.0 do not use these gadgets.
ATREDES 1.1 is now available from Incognito Software, 313-462-2148. It
supports compiled menus, unlimited menu trees, dozens of powerful new
embedded commands, ZMODEM, and much more.
TO PERSONS WRITING TERMINALS OR ONLINE GAMES:
If you want to include Skypix in a PD or Shareware terminal or online game
you're writing, we encourage you to; it's easy to do. There is no license
fee for non-commercial use. Protocol details and related support
information are available through Incognito Software.
The ZMODEM code is taken from the public domain code by Chuck Forsberg, as
altered by Frank Harper and Michael Cox.
