**************************************************************************
The drawings in this file were drawn by me with out any help from
New Tek Inc. ® 1986 nor have I even had a Digi-Droid in my hands.
If built properly this little addition to your Digi-View will
make digitizing faster and more fun (also keeps those finger
prints off of your color wheel).
I was able to build mine for about $25
You will need:
1) Futaba FP-S148 (standard servo) or equivelent.
aproximatley $21
available from any Hobby Shop that stocks R/C supplies.
if you have a standard size servo handy even cheaper.
** Do not use a microservo as it does not rotate enough **
2) 9 Pin Female SUB D connector available at Radio Shack
it should be a solder type connector.
3) About 6 feet of ribbon cable (3 conductor) or
any 22 gauge wire will be ok.
4) Double sided foam tape available at hobby dealer.
SORRY... I am not a Tech writer so you will need to refer to the
drawings alot.
Remove Digi-View bracket from copy stand
Unscrew Servo horn from servo (it looks like a cross)
VERY CARFULLY !!!
Remove wheel from the bracket (this was tough to get off!)
CAREFULLY !! press servo horn onto wheel as shown (Picture File WHEEL)
it should be snug. Make certain to get the colors in the right order.
Now you will need your wire, phillips screwdriver, female SUB D connector,
solder, soldering iron, short 1 inch peice of wire.
and (optional Technician see above.)
Unscrew and remove back cover of servo (be careful not to remove the top
if you see any gears you are on your own...)
You will see a circuit board as show in File SCHEMATIC
You will want to write down the colors and orientation of the RED,BLACK
and WHITE wires on the servo.
Remove the wires from the servo (stop don't use your teeth!) carefully
unsolder them so as not to short any of the contacts on the servo.
Get your three conductor wire feed it through the rubber grommet and
solder the wires to the contacts of the servo as shown in file SCHEMATIC
** DO NOT SHORT ANY OF THE CONTACTS ** or you will damage your computer.
check this with an OHM meter if you have one.
DO NOT do this with connector plugged into your AMIGA !!!!
Now take the Sub D connector (looking from the back) and solder an
insulated piece of jumper wire.
from pin 4 to pin 6 (this tells Digi View that the servo is there.)
Attach the wire from the servo (was White) to pin 6 > SIGNAL
Attach the wire from the servo (was Black) to pin 8 > GROUND
Attach the wire from the servo ( was RED ) to pin 7 > POWER
***************************************************************
** Make sure you haven't shorted any other pins together !!! **
***************************************************************
Now if all is done properly there will be no smoke.
Stick the servo (as shown in file FINAL ASSEMBLY) to the bracket
with a 1 inch piece of double sided foam tape.
When you mount the bracket to your camera it will be backwards
servo is next to lens (this is the correct orientation)
Screw the wheel onto the servo (you did save the little black screw
didn't you!)
** MAKE EXTREMELY SURE YOU FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS **
With power off plug the connector into JOY PORT 2
Turn on your Amiga
******** WARNING ********
Try to move your mouse pointer if it does not move, ** IMMEDIATLEY **
power down, you did something wrong !!! Recheck your wiring !!
Get Digi View running, goto digitize and you should see AUTO
Congratulations you now have a Digi Droid....
If not recheck all wiring.
Goto Digitize RED the wheel should turn.
if the RED filter isn't in front of your lens rotate the wheel clockwise
(looking from the top) until it is.
Try green and blue..
if green isn't quite right in the center goto Controls Motor Cal
and reposition the green slider (yes there is a motor cal menu)
Well that's it folks, have fun.
