Well, it's been a week now since I posted 0.90a, sorry for all of the
problems it had been causing some of you. I've spent alot of time this
past week ripping things apart and gluing them back together. I also
was able to borrow a spare HST for a few days for some heavy testing since
those with HST modems had the most problems. I'm happy to say that all
the protocols have been changed quite a bit, yes, they do disk buffering
now! Sorry to all those who use floppies, major oversight on my part...
Two things to be aware of, the font has been changed, it's now called
"tbm.font". Please thank Steve Winokur for the work he did merging the
default Amiga Topaz font with the special IBM graphics characters, it looks
much better and is easier on the eyes compared with the alphas of the
ibm.font.
The other is the alternate dialing prefixes, see changes.txt for a
description of it.
Several people have posted some icons for JR-Comm, haven't included
one yet, I'll wait a little while longer before deciding on which one I'll
use for the official release.
Need to re-work the display for morerows, PAL and interlace support.
Hope some one can hack Topaz 11 for the IBM graphics characters so that
I can include that too.
Still haven't addressed the problem with the screen not being able to be
dragged down so that you can access another screen. I know the <Amiga><N/M>
sequences don't do everything for you, so, I plan to make up a quicky that
will do screen shuffling for you via the <LEFT><ALT> - <LEFT><AMIGA> keys
being pressed simultaneously, those of you who've used CoPilot know what I
mean. This utility will be seperate, like JR-Beep so that you can include
it in your startup-sequence. Please remember, JR-Beep detaches itself from
the CLI, don't RUN it!
Found a problem with QMouse 1.4, it inserts itself with a priority of 25,
definately unfreindly to the whole Amiga system as well as JR-Comm, at high
speeds, like using MNP modems it can cause the serial device to drop carrier
since it has a lower priority (20) then QMouse, be warned.
One more thing for HST users to note, you'll lose data if you're using
the 16 color screen. 19.2k through the serial device with a 4 bit-plane
display is too much to ask of your Amiga. I'd recommed a single bit-plane
display, but you'll probably get by with an 8 color display. Just don't
try too much heavy multi-tasking while downloading, you'll have problems.
Also, I plan to make an external editor for the phone book so that you
can do global changes to the directory entries as well as import entries
from text files in "The Final List"(tm) format.
The phonebook as it stands needs a couple of features added to it, the
first being a sort gadget to do and alphanumeric descending sort. The
other is an insert gadget.
The dialer needs a space-bar skip to next entry and some other key
sequence to de-select the current entry being dialed.
String gadgets to define the serial.device and unit number for those
who have dual/multi-port cards in their A2000.
User defined transfer buffer for downloads and uploads, currently
hardwired for 8k.
Font name string if you have a flavor of font you like more than what
I've supplied.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, that's about it for now. I'm going to start converting over to
Lattice 5.0, looks like it'll really trim the file size down. After that
I'll begin working on the official release, there'll probably be one more
preliminary release before that though...
To sum up, the first release is going to be pretty much the same as it
is now, no radical changes yet. After the first release is done I'll start
tearing some things apart and start re-building.
Your comments, suggestions, flames and anything else you wish to toss
at me will always be welcomed. I'm not going to lash out at you for what
you have to say, either way, if it makes sense I'll do it.
Thanks for the overwhelming response to JR-Comm, it's something I NEVER
expected! I'm more determined then ever to give the Amiga community one
hell of an awesome comm program!!!
