  13. Thank you for your interest in Amiga\TeX.
  14. On this disk you will find a demonstration version of the Amiga\TeX\
  15. package.  I have included a small version of Amiga\TeX, the previewer,
  16. a few fonts, and a couple of sample \TeX\ files.  It will run on a
  17. 512K system with two drives.  To run \TeX, from the CLI, type
  18.  
  19. {\tt tex:tex {\bf filename}}
  20.  
  21. If you are running on a 512K Amiga, you must not be running any other
  22. programs, or even have a RAM disk installed.  To run the previewer, type
  23.  
  24. {\tt tex:preview {\bf filename}}
  25.  
  26. The demo files are in {\tt tex:inputs}.  Included is the full source
  27. for the Amiga\TeX\ manual, as {\tt amigatex.tex}.
  28. Amiga\TeX\ runs exactly
  29. the same as \TeX\ on mainframes, so refer to {\it The \TeX book}
  30. by Don Knuth for details.  The previewer is completely menu and
  31. gadget driven, so just play with it to determine how it works.
  32. There are also some keyboard commands; try `F', `P', the arrow
  33. keys, and `Q'.  (Note that when you give preview a file name, you
  34. give it the file name without the extension; {\tt story} rather
  35. than {\tt story.tex}, for instance.)

  37. This is just a demonstration version, so the size of the \TeX\ is
  38. limited, and you might not be able to run large documents.  (The
  39. standard version of Amiga\TeX\ for a 512K machine can deal with
  40. larger documents.)  In addition,
  41. only a small number of previewer fonts are supplied, so the previewer
  42. will draw black rectangles if it cannot find a particular font.
  43. \TeX\ will
  44. run on small documents, however, and will allow you to see that it is
  45. indeed a complete version of \TeX.  Even with this small version
  46. of Amiga\TeX, you can run the entire Amiga\TeX\ manual.
  47. The full version of Amiga\TeX\ comes
  48. on eight floppies, and will handle larger documents than most mainframe
  49. versions of \TeX, if your Amiga has at least 768K of RAM.  On a 512K system,
  50. you should be able to run most of your documents, unless you use a large
  51. number of macros.  On the eight distribution floppies you will find

  64. You will also find a new, expanded, 80-page manual, with a large set of
  65. font samples.  All of this comes attractively packaged in a three-ring

  69. This document was typeset using Amiga\TeX, and printed on a QMS-Kiss laser
  70. printer from the Amiga.  It is supplied as a sample, called {\tt atd.tex},
  71. which you can run and preview yourself.  As Amiga\TeX\ is a full implementation
  72. of \TeX, we can use all of the fancy mathematics capabilities of \TeX:
