Hurricane Julia
By Walter Strickler
Permission is hereby granted for unrestricted non-commercial use of
this animation.
To run the animation, type 'movie hurricanejulia' at any CLI prompt,
or double click its icon. Make sure that the program 'Movie' is in
the CLI's path, or is listed as the icon's default tool.
This animation is composed of 52 Julia sets. For more information
on the Julia set, see 'Computer Recreations' in the November, 1987
issue of 'Scientific American'.
The vital statistics for this animation are as follows:
-Number of frames: 52
-Refresh Rate: 15 Frames per Second
-Number of Colors: 16
-Graphics Mode: Non-interlaced Lo-res
-Animation Software Used: Eric Graham's Dilbm & Pilbm
-Animation Program Required: Eric Graham's 'Movie'
-Memory Required: 1 Megabyte
Julia set parameters are as follows:
-Range of Real Axis: [-1.77765,1.77765]
-Range of Imaginary Axis: [-1.25,1.25]
-Maximum Iteration Value: 100
-Julia Set Points: See the File 'HJ_Path'
The program used to generate the individual frames is being written
by myself in C and assembler. The inner loop is written in assembler
and directly accesses the registers of the 68881 in a Microbotics
multifunction board on an Amiga 1000. The IFF pictures took an
average of two minutes each to produce.
I would like to thank the following people:
M. Gaston Julia: For the Julia set itself.
A. K. Dewdney: For a great column ('Computer Recreations')
and for the idea of a Julia set animation.
R.J. Mical: For the color requester in the APS, and for
Intuition which is a masterpiece of the programmer's art.
The entire Amiga design Team: I am in awe of you for your
foresight in producing such a great machine. Without you
this would not have been possible.
Rob Eisenhuth (a friend of mine): For forcing me to do
this, general assistance, and the choice of colors.
Shannon Rose (another friend): For the name of this
animation (Hurricane Julia).
