This is a virus checker for the Amiga. This program will check your floppy
disks for signs of non standard boot code (viral infection).
USAGE: VCheck1.9 df0: Check drive df0: for the virus
VCheck1.9 df3: Check drive df3: for the virus
etc.
VCheck1.9 ? Print Usage information
VCheck1.9 -?
If the virus is found on any of your disks you can use the DOS Install
command to remove it.
WARNING: Installing to some commercial disks (games) can be fatal.
normally you should only install to DOS boot disks.
Bill Koester (CATS)
This program has been updated to VCheck1.9 as of 1-7-88. VCheck1.9
has changed since release 1.2. VCheck1.9 will now identify a disk as
one of three types, NON-BOOTABLE DISK, NORMAL DOS BOOT DISK, DISK WITH
NON STANDARD BOOT CODE. This release will detect but NOT indentify all
non standard boot blocks. If VCheck1.9 finds a NON STANDARD boot block
use VCheck1.2 to indentify it as SCA #1 or SCA #2. If VCheck1.2 does
not make a positive indentification the boot block is either a new VIRUS
or a valid commercial bootblock. If the disk in question is not a commercial
product you should assume that it is infected with a new VIRUS and if
possible send a copy of the disk to:
Bill Koester (CATS)
1200 Wilson Drive.
West Chester, PA 19380
(215) 431-9355
for identification. VCheck 1.9 will not check memory for a VIRUS use
VCheck 1.2 with no parameters.

There are some disk viruses which have been recently infecting bootable
disks. When a machine is booted with an infected disk, the virus
installs itself in memory and wedges itself into some vectors. When
the infected machine is rebooted, the virus writes itself to the boot
disk. The virus is written to the boot blocks and is fairly harmless
to normal Workbench type boot disks. But it can be "fatal" to disks
with specialized boot blocks (such as some commercial games, etc).
TO PROTECT OTHERS:
------------------
Do not distribute any bootable disks, without first making sure that
the masters are free of infection. (Note - A bootable disk is any
disk the Amiga accepts at the Workbench prompt)
TO PROTECT YOURSELF:
--------------------
If you are not sure a machine is clean, turn off the machine for
30 seconds before booting on it.
Write-protect your disks before booting with them, especially if you are
booting on someone else's machine or booting after someone else
has used your machine.
Use VCheck to make sure your disks and memory are free of known viruses.
TO DETECT THE VIRUS:
--------------------
Use VCheck1.9 as described above.
TO GET RID OF THE VIRUS:
------------------------
If your boot disk is infected, and it has no specialized boot code, use
the CLI Install command on it to remove the virus.
(Note - Any infected boot disk that still works probably had no
specialized boot code)
Do not Install uninfected disks (you could destroy special boot code).
Do not Install non-boot disks (you'll make them susceptible to the virus).
Usage: Install dfn: (Example: Install df0:)
Write protect the disk.
Check the disk with as described above to make sure it is clean.
Turn off your machine for 30 seconds.
Now boot with the clean write-protected disk.
Use VCheck1.2 to make sure memory is clean, and VCheck1.9 to check your
other boot disks. Use the CLI Install command to remove the
virus from any normal boot disk which is infected.
