  18. The file "d" must be in C: directory or in your working directory in order
  19. for this directory config to work.  "d" is in the same directory that this
  20. files is right now.   Do this in CLI:  Copy  d  C:

  26.                         How to Use this DU Config
  27.  
  28.  
  29. This DU config replaces the Mouse and Gadget commands except for the normal
  30. mouse-click which places the cursor.
  31.  
  32. (1)  To bring the DU config on-line, select "Directory Utility".
  33.  
  34. (2)  Click the 2nd Gadget and press ESC to load in the current directory.  Or
  35. type in a name such as "df1:", before pressing ESC.
  36.  
  37. (3)  Use the DU commands given below.
  38.  
  39. (4) When finished using the DU config, select "Regular UE Config".  This
  40. reloads your normal editing config.  
  41.  
  42. You can do normal editing while the DU config is loaded, provided you do not
  43. expect the Mouse or Gadget commands to behave like they normally do.

  46.                                DU Commands
  47.  
  48. These are the "Gadgets" in the Message Line:
  49.  
  50. Gadget1:       SWITCH to the NEXT directory or file buffer.
  51. Shft-Gadget1:  CLOSE the current directory or document.
  52.  
  53. Gadget2:       LOAD a NEW directory.
  54. Shft-Gadget2:  RUN the SOURCE program.
  55.  
  56. Gadget3:       COPY SOURCE (file or directory) to TARGET (file or directory).
  57. Shft-Gadget3:  UN-ARC the SOURCE arc-file.
  58. Alt-Gadget3:   ARC SOURCE file into TARGET arc-file.
  59.  
  60. Gadget4:       RENAME the SOURCE file or directory.
  61. Shft-Gadget4:  MAKE a new subdirectory within the SOURCE directory.

  63. These apply to Any Word you click with the Left Mouse Button:
  64.  
  65. Shft-click:    Select and Hilite a NEW SOURCE file or directory.
  66.  
  67. Alt-click:     Select and Invert a NEW TARGET file or directory.
  68.                (In Title Bar will appear "Source ==> Target".)

  70. Ctl-click:     LOAD a directory or file that is clicked.
  71.  
  72. shftAlt-click: DELETE whatever you clicked!  It DOES NOT ASK, whenever it's
  73.                a file-name!  But it will ask, whenever it's a directory-name.

  76.                                Doing Things

  78. LOAD in a directory:
  79.                Click the 2nd gadget.  Type in the directory name.  Press ESC.

  81.                Ctl-click any directory name in a directory listing.

  83. SWITCH to next directory:
  84.                Click the 1st gadget.  This puts up a "Source ==> Target"
  85.                in the Title Bar.  (F1 does NOT refresh these.)

  87. CLOSE current directory or file (without saving):
  88.                Shft-click the 1st gadget.

  90. COPY a file to a directory:
  91.                Shft-click the SOURCE file name.
  92.                Alt-click the TARGET directory name.
  93.                Click the 3rd gadget.

  95. COPY a file to a file:
  96.                Same as above, except both are file names.

  98. COPY a directory to a directory:
  99.                Same as above, except both are directory names.

  101. COPY a file to a new file name:
  102.                Shft-click the SOURCE file name.
  103.                Type the new file name into the appropriate directory listing,
  104.                select it as TARGET, and copy the SOURCE file into it.
  105.  
  106. RENAME a file or directory:
  107.                Shft-click the SOURCE name.
  108.                Click the 4th gadget.
  109.                Type in the new name and ESC.  (WARNING:  You can't tell if it
  110.                really worked, unless you Refresh the directory in order to
  111.                verify that it got Renamed on disk!)
  112.  
  113. DELETE a file:
  114.                ShftAlt-click the file name.  (WARNING: No question is asked!)
  115.  
  116. DELETE a directory:
  117.                ShftAlt-click the directory name.  You'll be asked if you want
  118.                to delete the whole directory.  Click No or Yes.
  119.  
  120. REFRESH a directory listing:
  121.                Ctl-click the First Name in it.  (The First Name is always
  122.                taken to be the name of the directory listing in the window.)

  124. MAKE a new subdirectory:
  125.                Shft-click a SOURCE directory to hold the new subdirectory.
  126.                Shft-click the 4th Gadget, type in the new subdirectory name,
  127.                press ESC.

  129. RUN a program:
  130.                Shft-click the SOURCE program.
  131.                Shft-click the 2nd gadget.
  132.  
  133. UN-ARC an arc.file:
  134.                Shft-click the SOURCE arc.file.
  135.                Shft-click the 3rd gadget.
  136.  
  137. ARC a file into an arc.file:
  138.                Shft-click the SOURCE file.
  139.                Alt-click the TARGET arc.file.
  140.                Alt-click the 3rd gadget.

  142. WATCH what happens in CLI:
  143.                Click the Title Bar.

  146.                             **** CAUTIONS ****
  147.  
  148. Before trying this config, note the following:
  149.  
  150. 1) PRACTICE on a temporary (scratch) disk first, until you know how to use
  151. these commands.
  152.  
  153. 2) Normal mouse-click still places the cursor as always.  But the other Mouse
  154. and Gadget commands have been replaced or erased.  If you want to create a
  155. Hilite or Invert region for normal editing, place the cursor with the mouse
  156. or keypad keys and use keypad-1 & keypad-3 to set start/end of the Hilite or
  157. Invert region.

  159. You must train yourself not to use the Mouse or Gadgets like you would in
  160. normal editing.
  161.  
  162. 3) The program "d" must be available in order for these commands to work.
  163. "d" should be copied to C: on your system.  (You may also use it in place of
  164. Dir, if you wish.)
  165.  
  166. 4) These commands must be able to find the "Run", "Copy", "Delete" and
  167. "Rename" AmigaDOS programs on your system.  These must also be in C: on your
  168. system.
  169.  
  170. 5) Errors and failures are not reported when external operations such as
  171. Copying, Deleting, Renaming, etc, are performed.  If the operation doesn't
  172. succeed, this DU config assumes that they actually did succeed.  You should
  173. Refresh directory listings (ctl-click the First Name), in order to see
  174. what is really in the directories.  Also going to the Tiny Window will let
  175. you see the CLI dialog and messages.
  176.  
  177. 6) Click the 1st Gadget to switch among directory listings.  This updates the
  178. Source ==> Target in the Title Bar.  Otherwise, they may be out of date in
  179. the Title Bar, which could cause you to do the wrong thing!  (Warning:  F1
  180. merely switches buffers like always, so the Source ==> Target in the Title
  181. Bar will NOT get updated by it.)
