THIS PROGRAM WAS DESIGNED SOLELY FOR THE AEA/G3PLX AMT-1 OR AMT-2
AMTOR/RTTY/CW/ASCII RS232 TERMINAL UNITS. THIS PROGRAM *CAN* BE
USED IN A VERY LIMITED WAY ON OTHER RS232 T/U'S (KANTRONICS UTU ETC).
FILE TRANSMISSION/RECEPTION AND LOGGING WILL FUNCTION AS WELL AS THE
STANDARD SPLIT SCREEN ACTION, HOWEVER, ALL MODE CHANGES MUST BE DONE
BY MANUALLY TYPING THE COMMAND FOR YOUR PARTICULAR T/U ON THE KEYBOARD.

You have already un-archived the file amt-1.arc which contained the files:
amt1
sysconfig
readme.amt1
1)copy file amt1 to your disk
2)rename file sysconfig to system-configuration and copy it to directory :DEVS
This sets up the screen colors for no flicker in interlaced 640X400 50 line
mode display. Re-boot with the new system-configuration if DOS 1.2 (see next)
3)This program is guaranteed^ only with DOS 1.2 system-configuration. If you
are running under 1.1, the only way to be sure of getting the program to
function correctly is to manually enter preferences and set the screen for
a display that shows minimum flicker. DO NOT COPY SYSTEM-CONFIGURATION!!!
The best combination of colors is Blue-ish/Grey for the screen (first block
in preference color pallette), Dead/Black for the text (second block in
preference menu), Lavender/Blue (dilly dilly) for the window back gadget
color (third block in preference menu),and peach or flesh for the last
block in preference which gives you peach colored type-ahead text in the
AMT-1 program itself.
NOTE: These pastel colors sound like they came from San Fransisco's more
flamboyant crowd. Actually, they work amazingly well to reduce the
flicker on the Amiga monitor to a level almost undetectable. The
1.2 drag gadget lines are wider and flicker less than the 1.1 DOS.
The dimmer the grey the better and keep the other bright colors to
the minimum brightness required for good contrast and readability.
(The colors have a calming effect on the patients here in the asylum)
This is a very embryonic version of the program. The final version will have
full console bell beeping, and full help screens and pull down help menus.
It will probably have a PRINT gadget to turn the printer on and off while
receiving text. One possibility for an enhanced version would be a
robot type unmanned message store feature to save one message to a disk file
each time it is called by a station using amtor ARQ when the proper selcal
is received. Not a full BBS but a simple message storage feature that is
useful and not quite as offensive to the FCC and fellow hams. I.E. it won't
call CQ unmanned and can't be used for 3rd party obscene or illegal traffic
re-transmission (since it can only receive incoming text and not re-transmit
it). I happen to agree with the ARRL's position that complaints of obscene
or otherwise illegal traffic should be directed at the station of origin,
not any station relaying the traffic. But a program that prints a pre-typed
"HELLO" message with instructions to the user on how to store a message on
the system, receives the incoming message text, and transmits a sign off
message of "Thanks" etc. is truely benign in its operation and hopefully
a safe bet with the FCC.
There are 2 main command structures, menu and status line. Both utilize
the mouse to select modes of operation. The menu allows jumping right to
transmit or receive in a certain mode as opposed to the mode area of the
status line display which cycles through each of the modes.
Each area of the status line has a gadget related to it that decends down
approximately 2 or 3 chars down below the text. This allows pointing UP TO
a status display in addition to PRESSING ON the text directly. Each click
on the first text string showing the mode of operation, cycles through RTTY,
3 modes of amtor, cw, and ascii. In rtty, clicking on the speed will cycle
the speeds through the standard 45.5, 50, 75, and 100 baud speeds. In cw,
a string requester replaces the status line and prompts for the actual cw
speed. Speed is not functional in amtor or ascii since in the former case,
the speed is fixed by the protocol and in the latter, the speed of the
serial port of the Amiga is directly sent through the AMT-1 (Max of 300 baud
with the AMT-1 but not limited by the Amiga serial port). The serial port
speed is set with a menu for baudrate.

* WARNING WARNING WARNING DOS 1.2 USERS WARNING WARNING WARNING *
DO =NOT= END YOUR TEXT STRING IN A REQUESTER WITH A RETURN!!!!!!!!
SAY GOOD NIGHT TO THE SYSTEM AND REBOOT IF YOU DO.
THIS IS A MINOR BUG IN 1.2 THAT WILL BE FIXED IN THE RELEASE VERSION
JUST CLICK THE "DONE" GADGET TO ENTER THE TEXT.
With DOS 1.1 is safe to hit return or no return. You always must click on
the "DONE" gadget to get rid of the gadget.
The next version of the program will use ActivateGadget() to eliminate the
need to click in the string gadget area of the requester before typing
the text. And if is truely possible, the requester will disappear when
the return is hit and the DONE gadget will be removed.
==============================================================================
When the program is first run, it looks for a file named "infoinfo.txt".
I will eventually have requesters do the prompting for the information but for
now you must:
1)at the prompt type amt-1
2)A custom screen will appear...click on the window back gadget in the
upper right hand corner.
3)click in the DOS window and proceed to answer the prompts for your
selcal, name, qth, and callsign.
4)The program will continue normally from that point.
This need only be done once (thank God!) for a given callsign/selcal/qth.
I wanted to get this up on the board for a friend in Australia to download
this weekend. My apologies....Next one will not have these quick kludges.
