INSTALLING A DRIVER FOR WINDOWS 3
1) Make sure you have installed Windows 3 on your hard disk.
If you do not have a proper Windows 3 directory, install
one by running SETUP from the Windows package. Select VGA
as your type of Display.
2) Run VDRIVER on Disk #1. All high resolution display drivers
will be transferred to the sub-directory SYSTEM of your
Windows directory.
3) In DOS, go to your Windows 3 directory on the hard disk.
Run SETUP again. Select `Other' for `type of Display'.
When asked for the `display driver disk provided by the
hardware manufcturer' or `OEM Display Driver Disk', correct
the default drive and path prompted by SETUP to:
SYSTEM
Then select your desired resolution. SETUP may ask for a
`Windows Disk' with an incorrect path prompted. Correct it
to an appropriate path or floppy disk drive where you will
insert the expected `Windows Disk'.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR 800x600 256 COLOR WINDOWS 3 DRIVER
There are two 800x600 256 color drivers:
1) WIN3-63B.DRV for those display adapters equipped with a
minimum of 512K RAM.
2) WIN3-63C.DRV for those display adapters with 1MB RAM. This
driver does NOT work on any cards with less than 1MB RAM.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR 32768 COLOR WINDOWS 3 DRIVER
Some Windows application programs attempt to determine the number
of colors available on the display by enquiring the display
driver. The 32768 color driver naturally gives the answer 32768,
which unfortunately is interpreted as a negative quantity by
certain application programs, resulting in odd colors on the
screen. Here is a list of these programs:
o WINDOWS PAINTBRUSH
The PALETTE appears as shades in black and white. For the
colors to reappear, follow this sequence:
Go to Options menu
Select Image Attributes
Change setting to Colors
README.WIN Page 2
Go to File menu
Select New
o TETRIS
The screen appears in black and white. The colors may look
different than normal. Don`t panic. The game is still
good. Play as normal.
CUSTOM COLOR DEPTH ENHANCEMENT (CODE)
This is a new feature of the 32768-color Windows 3 driver, that
eliminates color irregularities resulting from the conversion of
a 24-bit color drawing to 15-bit (32768-color). CODE is
automatically invoked when loading a 24-bit color drawing.
