- Welcome to the fourth post of the guide! Not much new in this one. Keep
- in mind that these moves should all be treated as unconfirmed, but most
- appear to be somewhat accurate. The older fatalities were taken from a
- test version and were changed in the official (version 1.0) release.

- If you have any additions send mail directly to me and I will include it
- in the next guide. Moves and fatalities posted to rec.games.video.arcade
- and alt.games.mk will also be incorporated into this guide. Credit will
- be given to those who contribute or post moves which are later confirmed.
- Unconfirmed moves will be marked with (*) in the future. Unconfirmed
- meaning something that I have not done or witnessed first-hand. Once all
- the moves and fatalities are confirmed, the guide will cease to be
- preliminary, and become the real deal.

- o New MKII additions include seven new fighters, about four special
- moves for each character, and some new basic moves, along with all new
- graphics and backgrounds. There are supposedly two fatalities for each
- character, and none of the old fatalities were carried over. Scorpion's
- new fatality is similar to the old one, but now the skeleton twitches
- and explodes.

- o Rumors coming out of the AMOA show suggest the possibility of up to
- three hidden characters. Kano or Sonya could be one of these hidden
- characters, as they are no longer selectable fighters. They were said
- to be chained to the background on one of the test versions of MKII,
- but were not seen in release versions.

- o A rumor suggests that Shang TSung can turn into Kano and can
- execute all of the fighters fatalities.

- BASIC DEFINITIONS
- =================

- Button names are listed in all caps. While reading through the moves,
- the '+' can be substituted by and, and the '-' can be substituted by then.
- For example, 'two towards - HIGH PUNCH' should be read as 'press the
- joystick twice towards the opponent then press HIGH PUNCH'. Another
- example, 'LOW PUNCH + BLOCK' should be read as 'press LOW PUNCH and BLOCK
- at the same time'.

- Forward: press joystick directly towards the opponent.
- Away : press joystick directly away from the opponent.
-
- <number> <postion> : (i.e. two towards) Press the joystick in the
- -or- indicated position and letting it return to
- BUTTON the center, repeating <number> times. In this
- case: to the towards position then letting it
- return to the center, repeating twice.

- Quarter-Circle Towards: Move joystick from the down position, to the
- towards position, then press the button
- indicated. (actual movement is down - down to
- towards - towards - BUTTON)

- Quarter-Circle Away : Move joystick from the down position, to the away
- position, then press the button indicated.
- (actual movement is down - down to away - away -
- BUTTON)

- Half-Circle Towards : Move jostick from the away postion, to the down

- Full-Circle Away : Making a complete circle: move from the towards
- postion to the down postion first. Continue the
- motion until you return to towards position.

- Full-Circle Towards : Making a complete circle: move from the away
- postion to the down position first. Continue the
- motion until you return to the away position.

- Hold BUTTON then : Press and hold the button indicated while your
- release character charges. When finished charging
- release the button. Other actions may be
- performed while charging.

- down - down - up : Often this sequence can be done by just
- flicking the joystick down and letting it
- vibrate up and down. (i.e. Raiden's teleport.)

- BUTTON + (<sequence>) : The indicated button is held while the <sequence>
- in the parentheses is done and released upon
- completion of the inclosed sequence. (i.e. BLOCK +
- (two up)) In this case you would hold Block and
- then press the joystick twice up (see <number>
- <position> above).

- Charge (<number>, : You hold the indicated BUTTON for <number>
- BUTTON) seconds. (i.e. Charge (5,LOW KICK)) In this
- case you hold LOW KICK for 5 seconds then
- release. (see Hold BUTTON then release)

- '+','"' : It is important to recognize the difference
- between '+' and '-' which separate controller-button
- motions. The '+' means to hold the last action
- while doing the next action. (i.e. BLOCK (two
- up) + LOW KICK). In this case you would hold
- BLOCK while two up (see BUTTON (<sequence>)) then
- releasing BLOCK but still holding the joystick
- up you would press LOW KICK. The '-' means to
- release all held buttons before continuing any new
- motions. You keep the controller in the same
- position before continuing, however. Just remember
- the '+' accumulates new buttons or positions
- (if possible), while the '-' separates them.
- Also remember, if you don't pause enough between
- each '-' then the computer will think you're
- trying a '+' instead.

- block. You must press BLOCK to block. A good Mortal Kombatant learns
- not to use BLOCK but a countering move! Against projectiles, just duck!

- beginning player. I usually play masters. This is a good tip in
- itself if you read between the lines. (I use him on beginning
- players, hint, hint.)

- attacks. The Slide is effective; and even the force ball, but jump
- kick right after you do it. Players like to jump kick you over these.

- *** not much needed to be said about old Subby. The programmers were well
- advised to throw in that Groud Freeze because he was at first pretty
- weak by my standards. But now, I use him all the time when fighting
- the computer because the computer is programmed to come towards you!
- Not a pretty wise maneuver with that Ground Freeze. With the computer
- you can do a Ground Freeze and a lot of times it will just sit there and
- wait for it to disappear! (You know what to do! Either slide or do an
- Air Attack. [i.e. jump kick, jump punch])

- *** The problem with Shang TSung is that after a while you automatically
- morph back into him. Notice there is no way to morph back into him
- by command (at least not that I'm aware of). Another problem is that
- someone told me that the programmers of the game, made pretty sure to
- make the morphs extra sensitive. I advise you not to waste your tokens
- on Shang TSung until you've mastered a few other characters. The whole
- idea of using Shang TSung is to mystify your opponent by constantly
- morphing, and forcing him to use different fighting strategies. It is
- completely useless and even hindrance to just change into the same
- person all the time.

- *** A good combo with Subby is to face punch then immediately do the Spear.
- If you're near the corner (not near the edge of the screen! There is a
- difference; you'll figure it out.) then do the teleport punch followed
- by another spear. Make sure you guys don't waste a good spear with a
- chimpsy punch. Either roundhouse kick (good to make sure you get enough
- time to do a combo) or uppercut!

- there waiting for you to close so they can uppercut you.

- ** Often, in the sequence of play, you can substitute a two down - up for
- a flick of the joystick. Experiment!

- ** Most controller motions can be done in the air. That means for those
- moves that weren't designed to be done the air, the controller motion
- can be done while flying and then pressing the required buttons as
- soon as you land!

- ** If you are fast enough you can do more than one fatality or combine
- fatalities with babilities and/or friendships!

- ** Rumor has it you can do more than one player's fatality with Shang
- TSung, if you morph fast enough!
