  9. pilgrim's staff, the sailor's compass, the soldier's sword and the
  10. Christian's charter. Here paradise is restored, heaven is opened and
  11. the gates of hell are disclosed. Christ is its subject, our good is its
  12. design and the glory of God its end. It should fill the memory, rule
  13. the heart and guide the feet. Read it slowly, frequently, prayer-
  14. fully. It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory and a river of
  15. pleasure. It is given you in life, will be opened at the judge- ment
  16. and will be remembered forever. It involves the highest responsibility,
  17. rewards the greatest labor and condemns all who trifle with its holy
  18. contents."
