  1.                      SEVEN INCONTESTABLE QUESTIONS

  5.     A PERSONAL TESTIMONY
  6.     
  7.     The writer of this message has enjoyed the assurance of salvation 
  8.     over sixty-seven years and testifies to the blessedness of its     
  9.     truth.  
  10.  
  11.    The good Shepherd has said--"I give unto my sheep eternal     
  12. life; and they shall NEVER PERISH". (John 10:28)  For every person
  13. who trusts Christ as his or her Saviour, to "perish" is an     
  14. absolute impossibility!  "They are not only saved, BUT SAFE!" The
  15. prayer of the writer is that the joy of this precious truth will
  16. be the possession of every reader.  "For these things are written
  17. that ye may KNOW that ye have eternal life"--1 John 5:13.

  20.                      SEVEN INCONTESTABLE QUESTIONS
  21.  
  22.     What a triumphant climax the Spirit of God renders at the close of 
  23. the great doctrinal section of Romans!  It is unsurpassing in its 
  24. ascription of glory and praise to the God of all grace Who has provided 
  25. salvation for us!  
  26.  
  27.     The magnitude of the Gospel's power is revealed, in 
  28. its deliverance from sin's penalty, from sin's indwelling power and 
  29. ultimately from sin's presence!  Though profound in revelation, yet the 
  30. simplest saint can echo the words of another when asked what lessons he 
  31. had learned in his Christian experience.  He replied-- "First, I
  32. learned  that I have never done anything good in my life; second, that
  33. I could  never do anything good; and thirdly, that Christ has done it
  34. all!"   These three truths are precisely taught us in the doctrinal
  35. section of  the Roman Epistle, from chapter one to chapter eight.
  36.  
  37.     Then follows the climactic song of worship in Romans 8, verses 31 
  38. thru 39.  It is introduced by Paul with a leading question, saying-- 
  39. "WHAT SHALL WE SAY TO THESE THINGS?"  The "things" referred to are 
  40. undoubtedly the perfect salvation God has provided through His beloved 
  41. Son, as taught in the preceding chapters.  It is in response to this 
  42. leading question that the apostle presents seven indisputable questions 
  43. that no being, whether celestial, terrestrial or infernal, can contest!
  44.  
  45.     "IF GOD BE FOR US WHO CAN BE AGAINST US?" - As a believing sinner, 
  46. how can I ever doubt the blessed fact that the Gospel has revealed,
  47. that  GOD IS FOR ME!
  48.  
  49.      He has justified me; He has brought me into His
  50. eternal  favour; He enables me to overcome the power of indwelling sin;
  51. He has  assured me of entering into eternal glory!  All this He teaches
  52. me in  the doctrinal part of the Roman letter.  My salvation is a work
  53. that is  done entirely by God Himself, whereby He bestows upon a
  54. believing sinner  who puts his and her trust in the finished work of
  55. His Son, eternal life  NOW; with the assurance that He will bring me
  56. into eternal glory later!   Then, WHO CAN BE AGAINST ME?  Not even my
  57. greatest adversary and all his  hosts of evil! (Eph. 6:11-13).  The
  58. fact is incontestable!
  59.  
  60.     "HE THAT SPARED NOT HIS OWN SON, BUT DELIVERED HIM UP FOR US ALL, 
  61. HOW SHALL HE NOT WITH HIM FREELY GIVE US ALL THINGS?" - If God gave HIS 
  62. BEST for me, will He not give me the rest?  He looked even beyond the 
  63. Cross, to the glory that I will some day share with His Son.  "If 
  64. children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ" - 
  65. Romans 8:16.

  67.     Is Christ not "the appointed heir of all things?" - 
  68. Hebrews 1:2.  The Father, in bestowing His Son, knows of no way to 
  69. withhold the rest from me - Ephesians 1:3.  To give me the rest is 
  70. small, in comparison to giving me His Beloved Son!  Heaven was emptied 
  71. of its greatest treasure when the Son was given, to make me rich! -  2
  72. Corinthians 8:9.  This fact is also incontestable!
  73.  
  74.     "WHO SHALL LAY ANYTHING TO THE CHARGE OF GOD'S ELECT?" - This is a 
  75. legal expression, meaning to place a charge of guilt against me before 
  76. God's throne.  Satan would do so, if he could!  Demons would do so, if 
  77. they could!  Men also would attempt to, if they could!  But the
  78. question  suggests that there is NONE to accuse me, a justified sinner
  79. who has  believed on Jesus (Romans 3:26); not even my great Adversary! 
  80. To him  God says - "THE LORD REBUKE THEE, IS NOT THIS A BRAND PLUCKED
  81. FROM THE  BURNING?" - Zachariah 3:3.  Again, this fact that none can
  82. accuse me is  incontestable!
  83.  
  84.     "I hear the accuser roar,
  85.     Of ills that I have done;
  86.     I know them well and thousands more,
  87.     JEHOVAH FINDETH NONE!
  88.     Sin, Satan, Death press near
  89.     To harass and appall;
  90.     Let but my risen Lord appear,
  91.     Backward they go and fall"
  92.  
  93.     "GOD THAT JUSTIFIETH?" - Will HE accuse me?  Omit the italic words 
  94. "it is", added by the translators.  The statement can be given as an 
  95. interrogative question.  Will the JUDGE WHO forgave me my sins turn 
  96. around and condemn me again?  NEVER!  Has He not said "their sins and 
  97. iniquities will I remember NO MORE!" - Jeremiah 31:34; Hebrews 10:17.  
  98. His decision to justify me because I Have believed on Jesus, His Son,
  99. is  FINAL AND IRREVOCABLE!  PRAISE HIS NAME!  Surely with joy I
  100. confidently  sing- 
  101.  
  102.     "Tis the promise of God full salvation to give, Unto him who on    
  103. Jesus, His Son, will believe.  Hallelujah! 'tis done, I believe     on
  104. the Son; I am saved by the blood of the crucified ONE!"
  105.  
  106.     "WHO IS HE THAT CONDEMNETH?" - Can anyone re-open my case before 
  107. God's eternal throne?  Has not God said to me - "There is therefore now 
  108. NO CONDEMNATION to them which are in Christ Jesus"? - Romans 8:1.  Do 
  109. not the words of Jesus speak with highest authority when saying - 
  110. "Verily, verily I say unto you; he that heareth my word and believeth
  111. on  Him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into 
  112. condemnation, but is passed from death unto life" - John 5:24.  That 
  113. there is now no condemnation is an incontestable fact, praise the Lord!
  114.  
  115.     "No condemnation!  O my soul,
  116.     Tis God that speaks the word.
  117.     Perfect in comeliness art thou-
  118.     In Christ, thy glorious Lord.
  119.     No condemnation! - precious word!
  120.     Consider it, my soul,
  121.     Thy sins were all on Jesus laid,
  122.     His stripes have made thee whole."
  123.     
  124.     "CHRIST THAT DIED?" - Again an interrogation.  Will HE condemn me? 
  125.  NEVER!  He is a four-fold protection for me.  Yes, I have done
  126. offenses;  I do not deny it.  BUT- HE DIED for them!  Do I need "life"? 
  127. Yes; but  HE is "risen again" for me.  "I am saved by HIS life" above -
  128.  Romans  5:10.  Do I need a representative before God's throne?  Yes
  129. indeed! and  HE is in the chief place of authority for me - "at the
  130. right hand of the  throne of God".  For my transgressions and failures
  131. I need an Advocate  and I have ONE (1 John 2:1,2).  He "liveth to make
  132. intercession for me". Then how can He condemn me after He has saved me? 
  133. The fact is 
  134. incontestable!  It is impossible!  Not only SAVED, BUT SAFE!
  135.  
  136.     "WHO SHALL SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF CHRIST?" - The apostle then 
  137. recites ALL the possible experiences of trials that can happen.  My 
  138. troubles may hang like a heavy cloud over my head, but the proof of His 
  139. unchanging love is His very word, not my experience, which may
  140. sometimes  seem to disprove His love.  Through every kind of testing
  141. "we are more  than conquerors through Him that loved us".  In all
  142. adversity, not my  strength, but in His strength I will conquer.  The
  143. very one act of love  when He died for me and rose again, is the source
  144. of unconquerable  strength!
  145.  
  146.     Then the apostle's eye looks through all time, all space, through 
  147. all worlds, and in the most sweeping language declares his persuasion 
  148. that there is nothing "able" to break the golden chain of love that 
  149. binds the heart of God to His own.  His language embraces every 
  150. conceivable adversary in the universe, declaring none "shall be able to 
  151. separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord". 
  152. He  loves me in "death" and He loves me in "life"; and life can
  153. sometimes be  more trying than death!  Nothing in space above, nor
  154. depth beneath, nor  "any other thing" can separate me from His love. 
  155. When God the Father  gave His Son for me, He gave me IN HIM all the
  156. love He felt toward His  beloved SON!  Oh what love!  This fact too, is
  157. INCONTESTABLE!

  159.     Seven questions, possessing facts that are irrefutable! 
  160. HALLELUJAH! WHAT A SAVIOUR IS JESUS OUR LORD!  The preceding sections
  161. of Romans may  seem dry and doctrinal; but at the end is demonstrated
  162. the vital  connection between doctrine and love!  "Behold, WHAT LOVE!"
