-
- Five types of offerings:
-
- 1. BURNT OFFERING - Leviticus 1:1-17, 6:8-13
-
- Made a propitiation (means of removal or appeasement) for sin in
- general; was a means of approach by unholy people to a holy God; was an
- act of total commitment.
-
- 2. GRAIN OFFERING - Leviticus 2:1-16, 6:14-18
-
- Also known as the MEAT or MEAL OFFERING. An offering in which the
- believer presents himself for God's service, vows to walk in the fruits
- of holiness, and shows thanksgiving for the
- atonement received.
-
- 3. FELLOWSHIP OFFERING - Leviticus 3:1-17, 7:11-36
-
- Also known as the PEACE OFFERING. An act of communion or
- fellowship meal with God, resulting from the praise and
- thankfulness of past blessings, in acknowledgment of present,
- unexpected blessings, and in anticipation of future blessings.
-
- 4. SIN OFFERING - Leviticus 4:1-5:13, 6:24-30
-
- Secures forgiveness for sins committed after atonement has been made
- and accepted; particularly, sins which are committed in ignorance or
- without thinking.
-
- 5. TRESPASS OFFERING - Leviticus 5:14-6:7, 7:1-10
-
- Offered on account of injury to someone else or his property, as
- well as to God. Always accompanied by a fine equal to the value of the
- injury done plus an additional one-fifth.
-
- Three essential elements in offerings:
-
- 1. BLOOD - represented life
-
- 2. ALTAR - represented sacrifice or surrender
-
- 3. FIRE - represented purification and/or destruction
