  10. FUNCTION OF BLOOD IN OUR BODIES

  12. -Fluid, mobile - unlike fixed tissues
  13. -Not limited to one part of the body
  14. -Supplies the fixed cells with nourishment
  15. -Carries off the waste products of the cell
  16. -Continuously supplies and cleans all cells
  17.  (keeps constant communication)
  18. -Made of many various compounds and elements

  20. THE BODY OF CHRIST

  22. -All members related by His blood
  23. -The life of each member depends solely on His blood
  24. We are blood relatives to Adam, who sinned. Christ gives us new life
  25. (blood).

  27. STRUCTURE OF BLOOD
  28. -Red Cells: Carry fuel to the tissues
  29. -White Cells: Defends the body, combats infection
  30. -Other Elements:
  31.       Blood clotting
  32.       Antibodies - stop disease spread

  34. THE RED CELLS
  35. Contains hemoglobin - an iron compound a fuel for the body
  36.  
  37. Unites loosely with oxygen, making oxy-hemogoblin carries food to the
  38. tissues and carries away "cell garbage"
  39.  
  40. * Jesus is our only source for food and cleansing  "Wash our robes in
  41. the blood of the Lamb"

  43. THE WHITE CELLS
  44. Larger than the red cells, fewer in number.
  45.  
  46. In an emergency, these cells increase in number very rapidly
  47. ("Conscription of the White Army"), then they rush to the place of
  48. attack. They kill germs and surround them.

  50. * We overcome by the Blood of the Lamb

  52. ANTIBODIES - ANTITOXINS
  53.  
  54. Prevent infection The white cells fight infection when it occurs,
  55. these prevent it from getting a foothold. The build-up of these occur
  56. when you first contract a disease.

  58.    Some are effective for a short time
  59.    Some are effective for life
  60.  
  61. * After victory over sin, Jesus makes us "immune" from it.

  63. The child's blood comes from its father
  64. Its mother's blood is not transferred
  65. The mother provides only the flesh, not the blood.

  67. Hebrews 2:14 - "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh
  68. and blood He also Himself likewise took part of the
  69. same...""partakers" - koynoneho - "to share fully" "took part" -
  70. metecho - "to take part, but not all," "taking part in something
  71. outside one's self"

  73. Jesus took part in the flesh, but not the blood.

  75. So then, since the blood of Jesus came from the Father (making Him
  76. innocent), Jesus was PHYSICALLY (as well as spiritually) the Son of
  77. God.

  79. Note Jeremiah 22:30 (speaking of Jeconiah):   "Thus saith the Lord,
  80. Write this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days;
  81. for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of
  82. David, and ruling any more in Judah.

  84. "Scofield's Notes:  This declaration does not mean that Coniah (or
  85. Jeconiah) would have no children, for in 1 Chronicles 3:17-18 some are
  86. named (cp. Matthew 1:12). By divine judgment this king was to be
  87. written childless, i.e. no physical descendant would occupy a place in
  88. the list of Israel's kings.
  89. Consequently, if our Lord Jesus, who is to occupy David's throne (Luke
  90. 1:32-33), had been begotten by Mary's husband Joseph, who was of the
  91. line of Jeconiah (Matthew 1:12,16), it would have contradicted this
  92. divine prediction.  Christ's dynastic right to the throne came,
  93. through his foster father Joseph, from Jeconiah, but the physical
  94. descent of Jesus from David came through Mary, whose genealogy is
  95. traced to David through Nathan rather than through Solomon (cp.
  96. Luke 3:31 with Matthew 1:17).

  98. THE NEW LIFE

  100. You will remember in the Last Supper, and in our communion, Jesus took
  101. the wine, gave thanks, and told us that "This is my blood".  Drinking
  102. the wine (symbolically being the blood of Jesus), we take part in His
  103. blood. This is interesting since wine is often used to imply joy
  104. (Judges 9:13, Isaiah 55:1). Walter Lewis Wilson, in his book on Bible
  105. Types cites many passages where wine is a symbol of joy and
  106. prosperity. Since the Last Supper, we find our joy and prosperity in
  107. the "life" (or blood) of Jesus.
