  2.           THE SOURCE OF HOLINESS

  4.      "Well, I believe God will let me into heaven because I
  5. try to live right and do my best.  Don't you think that's
  6. good enough?"
  7.  
  8.      Unfortunately, God does not think that is "good
  9. enough."  There is a definite place for holiness, or
  10. "living right", in Christianity, but it is as a RESULT of
  11. salvation rather than the CAUSE.  Scripture reveals that
  12. God has chosen to save sinners by His own grace, and He
  13. made His plans to do this even before He created the
  14. universe.

  16.      The apostle Paul wrote, "[God] has saved us and called
  17. us to a holy life--not because of anything we have done,
  18. but because of his own purpose and grace.  This grace was
  19. given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time."
  20. (II Timothy 1:9 NIV)

  22.      God gives us grace to be forgiven, or "saved", and
  23. then He gives grace to live a holy life.  The Bible is very
  24. clear that we are not accepted by God on the basis of what
  25. we do, but rather on the basis of what the Lord Jesus
  26. Christ (God the Son) has already done for us.  AFTER being
  27. saved by God's grace through faith, our Father will assign
  28. us things He wants us to do (see Ephesians 2:8-10).

  30.      This was the plan of love agreed to by God the Father,
  31. God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (one God, three
  32. Persons) before the beginning of time.

  34.      It is a very good policy always to try to "live right
  35. and do your best", but that will NOT earn you a place in
  36. heaven.  Only through Jesus Christ, and by putting your
  37. trust in Him alone as your only hope of salvation, will you
  38. ever get to heaven.  NOTHING ELSE is "good enough" for God.

  42. don't wait.  PUT YOUR TRUST IN JESUS.
