WAR:Proctor and Gamble - Rumors
In a recent news release, the Proctor and Gamble Co said that it is
removing their moon and stars logo from all of their products after
several years of fighting nationwide rumors that the logo indicates
their involvement and financial support of the church of Satan.
The fact that they have been using the logo for more than 100 years
seems to have had no bearing in what people have chosen to believe.
P & G has recieved over 12,OOO calls and letters recently concerning
the logo and are tired of fighting all of rumors that have been spread
in the past few years concerning the company.
THE REAL FACTS
If any of you did not see the rumor sheet that is currently
circulating in our area, it refers to the president of the Proctor and
Gamble Co. having publically admitted to P & G's monetary support of
the so-called Church of Satan. According to the sheet, the interview
was supposed to have taken place on the Merv Griffen talk show on TV.
Not only did it claim financial support, but the company's president is
also supposed to have said that there are not enough Christians in the
world to make that much of a difference to P & G.
Believe it? An awful lot of people.... including Christians, do. The
rumor sheet that I saw was circulated in our church by one of our
finest members!
Now what about the real facts?
1) The label is composed of stars which were the company's original logo;
the moon was added after it became a popular emblem of that era.
2) The company used the stars and logo to identify its stock handled by
the illiterate dock workers.
3) When the company tried to remove the label, they found that the dock
workers still could not read or write.
4) They never tried removing the label after their last experience.
How about you? Have you ever circulated a rumor or a rumor sheet?
Did you take the time to check it out before you passed it to someone
else? How simple it would have been if someone had just taken the time
to call a stockbroker and request a financial report of the P & G Co.
What about getting a copy of the transcript of the supposed interview?
Think about it the next time that you hear a rumor about something
like this or about a person. Would Christ have 'passed it on' or would
he just have ignored it until he could investigate the facts?
