The story of Dr. Simon Kottoor. I was a Roman Catholic priest for 25 years. Born in 1923 in Kerala, India, I was educated in Rome for the Catholic priesthood and
took my doctorate in theology in 1954. I did my post-gradute studies in economics in Canada. I worked for 8 years as a Professor of Economics in B.C.M. College, Kottayam.
I was also Principal of St. Stephen's College, Uzhavoor, for 9 years.
During the 25 years of my life as a priest, I had neither spiritual joy nor peace of soul because an intense feeling was growing in me that I was not following the teachings of Jesus Christ as in the Bible. I became convinced that no one can be
called a Christian unless he is born again. The words of Jesus that I must be born again went deep into my heart. I made my final decision on April 5, 1980, and accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour. I followed Him in baptism. Praise the
Lord! I became a new creation (II Cor. 5:17). I was a member of the family of God (John 1:12, 13). The darkness that overshadowed me and the emptiness of my soul just vanished.
I began to face persecution. I was beaten physically, and had
many false accusations levelled against me. I also suffered ostracism because of my new-found faith. The Lord allowd me to suffer much (Psalm 69:4, 8, 12) but His word in Psalm 27:10 was my comfort and strength.
The Lord blessed me with a wife
and two children, Jimon and Jintomol. We lived by faith and served the Lord for several years. In 1987, the Lord opened the way for the family to visit U.S.A. He brought me into contact with pastor Ted Duncan, who helped me in many ways, among
them the securing of immigrant status. We now live in San Jose and are eager to minister for the Lord as He gives us opportunity. My wife also praises God for bringing her out of spiritual darkness and emptiness. She had been a Roman Catholic
nun for twelve years.
