  4.      If you are not subscribing to this journal from the Geoscience 
  5. Research Institute (Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, CA 92350), then you 
  6. are missing out on a good deal considering you get two issues/year for only 
  7. $4.00.  With over 100 citations the article by Gibson provides a thorough
  8. overview of chromosome banding.  From a synopsis:

  10. Four hypotheses to explain similarities of chromosomal banding are 
  11. discussed.  Such similarities could be the result of common design, of 
  12. common ancestry, of chance, or of the action of virus-like agents.  The 
  13. hypothesis that chromosomal similarities could be due to chance seems 
  14. unreasonable.  It seems more likely that virus-like agents would cause 
  15. differences between karyotypes than that they would change different 
  16. karyotypes to look similar.  Common ancestry appears to be the most likely 
  17. basis for chromosomal similarities in species classified in the same genus, 
  18. and for some species classified in different genera.  However, to extend 
  19. this explanation to higher taxonomic categories, in which similarities are 
  20. of lesser extent and of lower quality does not seem necessary.  To a 
  21. creationist, it seems more probable that chromosomal similarities such as 
  22. are found within the artiodactyls, the carnivores, the marsupials or the 
  23. primates may be the result of common design.
