  3.                              REMEMBER ME?

  5.         Some people call me Old Glory, others call me the Star Spangled
  6.         Banner, but whatever they call me, I'm your flag, the flag of
  7.         the United States of America. Something has been bothering me,
  8.         so I thought I might talk it over with you.
  9.  
  10.         I remember some time ago people lined up on both sides of the
  11.         street to watch the parade and naturally I was there, proudly
  12.         waving in the breeze.
  13.  
  14.         When your daddy saw me coming, he immediately removed his hat
  15.         and placed it over his heart. Remember? And you, I remember you
  16.         standing there straight as a soldier. You didn't have a hat but
  17.         you were giving me the right salute.
  18.  
  19.         Remember your little sister? Not to be outdone, she was saluting
  20.         the same way as you, with her hand over her heart. Remember?
  21.  
  22.         What happened? I'm still the same ol' flag. Oh..I've added a few
  23.         more stars sinece you were a boy, and a lot more blood has been
  24.         shed since those parades of long ago
  25.  
  26.         But I don't feel as proud as I used to. When i come down the
  27.         street, you just stand there with your hands in your pockets. I
  28.         may get a small glance, but then you look away....
  29.  
  30.         I see the children running around and shouting. They don't seem
  31.         to know who I am. I saw one man take his hat off and look
  32.         around. He didn't see anyone else honoring me so he quickly put
  33.         it back on.

  35.         Is it a sin to be patriotic anymore? Have you forgotten what I
  36.         stand for and where I've been? Anzio, Normandy, Omaha Beach,
  37.         Pearl Harbor, Guadacanal, Korea, and the Middle East.

  39.         Take a look at the War Memorials some time. Look at the names of
  40.         those who never came back in order to keep this Republic Free.
  41.         One Nation Under God. When you salute me...you are saluting
  42.         them.
  43.  
  44.         Well, it won't be long until I'll be coming down your street
  45.         again. So, when you see me, stand tall, place your hand over
  46.         your heart and I'll salute you waving back....
  47.  
  48.         And I'll know that you remembered.
