  1. BBB:The Gospel Standard Versus Bob Jones Univ.

  3.    Many years ago Perry Rockwood was put off station WMMU at Bob Jones
  4. University because of his statements about the NASV with which the
  5. faculty of BJU was connected. He was sent a letter from Jim Ryerson
  6. with a nice, smooth, treacherous, double-tongued, flim-flammed alibi
  7. for dropping him, which didn't say why it was dropping him. But Perry
  8. knew and published an article about it which he distributed all over
  9. the country. Now we have from the Gospel Standard, Sept. 1989, Perry
  10. Rockwood of Halafax, Canada, still "reading the riot act" to the
  11. Fortress of the Faithless and the Bastion of Babies and telling them,
  12. in no uncertain terms, that their hollering about Ruckman, Ruckmanitus,
  13. Ruckmanism, and Ruckmanites is just a cover-up for blatant infidelity.

  15.    We quote directly from the publication (Vol. 39, no. 3, pages 9-10)
  16. by the late Martyn Lloyd Jones, speaking back in 1967. "Some Bible
  17. students feel the many translations that still come from the press that
  18. `this one makes it clear.' Many things being expressed are worthy of
  19. deep thought, another translation is not the answer. I suppose the most
  20. popular of all the proposals at the present moment is to have a new
  21. translation of the Bible. The argument is that people are not reading
  22. the Bible any longer because they do not understand its language,
  23. particularly the archaic terms . . . There is a danger I see of our
  24. surrendering something that is vital and essential. Take this argument
  25. that the modern man does not understand such terms as justification and
  26. sanctification. I want to ask you a question. When did the ordinary man
  27. ever understand those terms? Did the colliers to whom John Wesley and
  28. George Whitefield preached in the eighteenth century understand? They
  29. had not even been to a day school, they could not read, they could not
  30. write, yet these were the terms that were used. This was the version
  31. that was used, the AV. The common people have never understood these
  32. terms. We are concerned here with something that is spiritual,
  33. something that does not belong to this world at all. Human wisdom is of
  34. no value here. It is spiritual truth. Yet we are told that it must be
  35. put in such simple terms and language that anybody taking it up and
  36. reading it is going to understand all about it. My friends, this is
  37. sheer nonsense. What we must do is to educate the mass of the people up
  38. to the Bible, not bring the Bible down to their level. The common man
  39. is made to stand up to authority, he decides everything, everything has
  40. to be brought down to him. How do we do that with the Word of God? I
  41. say no. What we need, therefore is not to replace the AV. We need
  42. rather to preach and train people up to the standard, the language,
  43. dignity and the glory of the old AV."

  45.    Hymers stands corrected. Hutson stands corrected. Hudson stands
  46. corrected. BBC stands corrected. Robert Scumner stands corrected. Bob
  47. Jones III stands corrected, as well as the whole godless, depraved,
  48. backslidden, carnal, apostate Fundamentalists whom we call "The
  49. Alexandrian Cult." The comment on these comments by Martyn Lloyd Jones
  50. is "how sad it is to see young people's faith in God's Word being
  51. shattered in Bible schools which teach thatm while the Bible is
  52. inspired in the original manuscripts, we have really no inspired Bible
  53. today . . . and that while the King James Bible may be good . . . or
  54. the best other translations are also good . . . How can believers in
  55. the King James Bible support such schools? If you would like more
  56. information for why we accept only the King James Version Bible and
  57. reject all other versions, ask for our five booklets on the
  58. subject--offer 1000." Who is that from? That is from Perry Rockwood. If

  61. the "King James Onlyism" that Bobby Jones III coined to cover up the
  62. dirty rotten sins of his ungodly faculty who have been attacking the
  63. King James Bible in the class and ridiculing Bible believers.
