  4. Tinytalk is an inexpensive and memory-efficient screen reader program which
  5. is  compatible with the majority of commercially-available speech
  6. synthesizers.   It provides the basic functions of a screen reader: immediate
  7. (BIOS) output,  keyboard echo, review mode, cursor tracking and automatic
  8. screen monitoring.   You can define what gets read on horizontal cursor moves
  9. and vertical moves;  options include characters, lines, words, text in the
  10. same attribute as the  cursor, text between line-drawing characters, etc.  Up
  11. to 10 screen windows  can be automatically monitored, and you can specify
  12. what gets read when a  monitored area changes: whole area, just text in
  13. certain attribute, just text  that's scrolled in, trigger another window,
  14. etc.  "Floating" windows are  available for reading things like column
  15. titles.  Tinytalk can automatically  detect and read box-bordered popup
  16. windows without having to be told where  they are, and will automatically
  17. track lightbars in such windows.  There's  also a forms mode for data entry
  18. screens: as you move from field to field,  you'll hear the prompt and field
  19. contents for the field you're on (and only  for that field, even if there are
  20. more than one on the line).

  22. Tinytalk can hold up to 10 configurations (settings, banks of 10 windows,
  23. etc.) in memory at one time.  It can automatically switch to the appropriate
  24. configuration when you execute a program (even if the program is being
  25. invoked  from within another one).

  27. Tinytalk is shareware with a registration fee of $75 US.  Evaluation copies
  28. are available from several bbs's.  The evaluation version is fully
  29. functional;  the registered version eliminates the initial "nag message."  If
  30. you don't  have access to a BBS that carries it, you can obtain an evaluation
  31. copy for $5  US (which will be credited toward the registration fee).  We can
  32. also  send you the evaluation version directly by modem (as long as you're
  33. the one  paying for the call).
