  7.      The following screens contain the latest information on
  8.      PowerMenu Version 4.14; anything you read here will supercede
  9.      the PowerManual.  You can print this file if you'd like by
  10.      entering the DOS command:

  18.      Version 4.xx of PowerMenu contains the following new features:
  19.  
  20.      °  User's Name Displayed  (REGISTERED VERSION ONLY!)
  21.           Your name (or your company's) -- up to 35 characters --
  22.           will now display in the Title Box on the main PowerMenu
  23.           screen in the space labeled "Licensed To:"  The first time
  24.           that you run MINSTALL.EXE, you will see this message:

  26.             You are the licensed owner of this copy of PowerMenu!
  27.             Please enter your name:
  28.  
  29.          Consider the name you want displayed and type carefully.
  30.          You will not be able to change it later.
  31.  
  32.      °  Installs from Any Floppy Drive
  33.           The PowerMenu Installation program, MINSTALL.EXE now
  34.           executes correctly from either Drive A: or Drive B:.
  35.           Please refer to Chapter 1 of the PowerMenu Manual for
  36.           instructions on using MINSTALL.

  38.      °  Three Date Formats
  39.           Now PowerMenu can display your computer's system date in
  40.           one of three formats --
  41.  
  42.           · American --  MM/DD/YY
  43.           · European --  DD/MM/YY
  44.           · Asian    --  YY/MM/DD
  45.  
  46.      °  File Locator
  47.           Now you can search any drive or directory for a file and
  48.           find its full pathname, even if you don't exactly remember
  49.           the name of the file!  Select [F]ile Locator from the [F2]
  50.           Utilities menu and then type as much of the path and filename
  51.           as you can recall, using the DOS wildcard characters ([?]
  52.           and[*]) to fill in the blanks.

  54.      °  Higher ASCII Entry
  55.           You can now use your computer's [Alt] key with the number pad
  56.           keys to enter nearly all of the 256 ASCII symbols into your
  57.           "company name," passwords and menu items.  Use of special
  58.           symbols and foreign characters is not available in the Disk
  59.           Manager program.

  61.      °  Graphic Directory Tree
  62.           With the new Graphic Tree Display option you can see the
  63.           heirarchical structure of your hard disk in PowerMenu's
  64.           Disk Manager.  You can turn this feature on or off in the
  65.           PowerOptions window (accessed with [F3]) or in the [D]irectory
  66.           menu within DiskMan.

  68.      °  FastRead in Disk Manager
  69.           PowerMenu's DiskMan uses some shortcuts in getting all the
  70.           information needed to display the directories and files on
  71.           your disk drive.  Network and other nonstandard types of
  72.           drives require a little more work for the same result.
  73.           PowerMenu will attempt to compensate for any problems it may
  74.           encounter by switching modes, if it can.  If you experience
  75.           errors when DiskMan reads a new drive, [Esc] out and call the
  76.           PowerOptions window with [F3].  Then change the Disable  Disk
  77.           FastRead selection to "Yes" and retry.

  79.      °  Faster File Marking
  80.           In PowerMenu's DiskMan you can use the [F]ile menu to Erase,
  81.           Rename, Copy, Move, and toggle the Read Only (Protection) and
  82.           Hidden status of the currently highlighted file.  To perform
  83.           these operations on several files at once, you should "mark"
  84.           them before using the menu.  When you hit [Spacebar] to mark
  85.           the file under the highlighting bar, PowerMenu will now skip
  86.           to the next file on the list.  In this way, consecutive file
  87.           marking can proceed without using the [Down] arrow key.

  89.      °  Move Files across Drives
  90.           You can now move files selected in DiskMan from one disk drive
  91.           to another instead of only to another directory on the same
  92.           drive.  This makes PowerMenu truly useful for archiving unused
  93.           files onto floppy disks.

  95.      °  Using DOS in DiskMan
  96.           You can pop up a DOS command line while you are in Diskman. 
  97.           From here you can enter one or several commands to your
  98.           computer's operating system (See Chapter 5 in the PowerManual).
  99.           The commands you enter will be issued from the directory con-
  100.           taining the highlighted bar, as indicated by the DOS prompt.
  101.           You can now enter up to 255 characters on the d[O]s line.
  102.         WARNING --
  103.           If you tell DOS to alter files or directories on the current
  104.           drive, then when you return to DiskMan the disk information
  105.           displayed will not be updated.  To force an update, you can
  106.           read the disk again by selecting [C]hange drive from the menu
  107.           and choose the drive you are on as the drive to change to.
  108.  
  109.      °  Hidden File Display
  110.           In the DiskMan the [Alt-H] key toggles display of "Hidden"
  111.           and Protected (Read Only) files.  Now the information window
  112.           at the bottom of the screen shows the status of this toggle.
  113.           When Hidden and Protected files have been made visible, you
  114.           will see the legend "-Prot-" in the bottom right corner of
  115.           this window.

  121.     I.  Multiple Disk Drives
  122.           PowerMenu can run any program, even if it is on another drive.
  123.           You must include the DRIVE LETTER as part of the directory
  124.           in the Edit Window Directory field.
  125.  
  126.           If you want to run a program in the \WS directory on the E:
  127.           drive, the Edit Window Directory field would be:
  128.  
  129.             Directory--- E:\WS
  130.                           - A drive letter in the directory field
  131.                              will cause PowerMenu to switch to that
  132.                              drive before running the program, then
  133.                              automatically return to the original
  134.                              drive.
  135.  
  136.           This allows you to run any file on any disk drive.
  137.  
  138.    II.  RAM Disk Support
  139.           You can dramatically increase PowerMenu's speed by putting the
  140.           files MENU.COM, MENU.OVL, MENU.DBF, MENU.NDX, MENU.CNF and
  141.           DISKMAN.OVL on a RAM disk.  Your DOS manual will tell you how
  142.           to set up a RAM disk using VDISK.SYS.
  143.  
  144.           We recommend you have at least 512 Kb of system RAM so you
  145.           can set up a RAM disk of 160 Kb and still have room for
  146.           your applications.
  147.  
  148.           Remember to put the DRIVE LETTER in the Directory field, as
  149.           you will be running programs on a different drive.

  151.   III.  Deleting, Packing, and Reindexing Submenus
  152.           There are programs in your \MENU directory that allow you to
  153.           manipulate your menu data file, MENU.DBF.  If you want to
  154.           list or delete submenus, use the program SUBMENU.EXE:
  155.  
  156.                SUBMENU -L                   lists all submenus
  157.                SUBMENU -D <submenu name>    deletes a submenu
  158.  
  159.           The only reason you should delete a submenu is if you
  160.           are trying to save disk space.
  161.  
  162.           The submenu is not physically deleted until you pack and
  163.           reindex the file.  This is done by entering:

  167.    IV.  Automatic Installation
  168.           When you install PowerMenu with the MINSTALL command,
  169.           it will search your hard disk for the most popular programs
  170.           and create a custom, instantly useable menu system!
  171.  
  172.     V.  User-defined Help Screens
  173.           You can modify the file called HELP.MEN which contains keywords
  174.           to help text which YOU write.  Whenever the user hits a
  175.           [Shift-Function Key], the corresponding help text will be
  176.           displayed.  To see the sample HELP.MEN file type [?] at
  177.           Powermenu's main menu screen.

  179.    VI.  Resident Text Editor
  180.           In the Disk Man you can use your favorite text editor or word
  181.           processor to [E]dit a text file currently under the highlighted
  182.           bar.  The editing program you choose must be able to accept
  183.           the path and filename of the file to edit as a command line
  184.           parameter.  Use the [F3] PowerOptions window to enter the path
  185.           and the command name of your editor.  You must include the
  186.           .COM, .EXE (or .BAT) file extension.
