  4.   PLEASE READ BEFORE RUNNING ETHERPRO.EXE and SNOOPER.EXE!
  5.  
  6. Thank you for your interest in General Software's ETHERPROBE
  7. and SNOOPER Ethernet Network Protocol Analyzers for your PC.
  8.  
  9. This demonstration diskette contains a real copy of each product
  10. for you to run on your PC, allowing you to capture and display
  11. live traffic on your own LAN.  We also include a few capture
  12. files containing saved traffic from our own NetWare LAN.
  13.  
  14. 1. USING THE DEMO WITHOUT A NETWORK FIRST...
  15.  
  16. TO USE THIS DEMO, simply run ETHERPRO.EXE or SNOOPER.EXE in the
  17. directory where the .ENC files (supplied on this CD-ROM) are
  18. located.  Then, using the arrow keys on your keyboard with the
  19. NUMLOCK mode turned off, select the "LOAD CAPTURE FILE" option,
  20. and press ENTER.

  22. You'll see a list of capture files, so select one of them
  23. by moving the hilight over the file and pressing ENTER.
  24.  
  25. To view the captured network traffic from the main menu,
  26. select the "DISPLAY CAPTURE BUFFER" option.  Once in the
  27. display mode, you can use the arrow keys, and the TAB key
  28. to switch between windows.
  29.  
  30. Both products attempt to use as much memory as is available
  31. in your machine for their capture buffers.  If you encounter
  32. any difficulties in running them on your machine, you may wish
  33. to try to disable memory managers, or disable DOS=HIGH statements
  34. in CONFIG.SYS which may be incompatible with its memory usage.

  36. 2. USING THE DEMO TO MONITOR YOUR LIVE ETHERNET NETWORK...
  37.  
  38. To view live traffic on your LAN, you'll need to install a
  39. packet driver (from the DRIVERS.ZIP file, which contains the
  40. drivers for 35 popular LAN cards).  Any CRYNWR-style packet
  41. driver will work with the analyzers.  For help on installing
  42. these drivers, select the "Help" option from the main menu of
  43. either product.  We have placed a file called DOIT.BAT in this
  44. directory, that installs the driver for an NE2000-compatible
  45. card with default IRQ and I/O port settings.  If you have another
  46. card or have special IRQ or I/O port settings, call us for details.
