- PLEASE READ BEFORE RUNNING ETHERPRO.EXE and SNOOPER.EXE!

- Thank you for your interest in General Software's ETHERPROBE
- and SNOOPER Ethernet Network Protocol Analyzers for your PC.

- This demonstration diskette contains a real copy of each product
- for you to run on your PC, allowing you to capture and display
- live traffic on your own LAN. We also include a few capture
- files containing saved traffic from our own NetWare LAN.

- 1. USING THE DEMO WITHOUT A NETWORK FIRST...
-
- TO USE THIS DEMO, simply run ETHERPRO.EXE or SNOOPER.EXE in the
- directory where the .ENC files (supplied on this CD-ROM) are
- located. Then, using the arrow keys on your keyboard with the
- NUMLOCK mode turned off, select the "LOAD CAPTURE FILE" option,
- and press ENTER.

- You'll see a list of capture files, so select one of them
- by moving the hilight over the file and pressing ENTER.

- To view the captured network traffic from the main menu,
- select the "DISPLAY CAPTURE BUFFER" option. Once in the
- display mode, you can use the arrow keys, and the TAB key
- to switch between windows.

- Both products attempt to use as much memory as is available
- in your machine for their capture buffers. If you encounter
- any difficulties in running them on your machine, you may wish
- to try to disable memory managers, or disable DOS=HIGH statements
- in CONFIG.SYS which may be incompatible with its memory usage.

- 2. USING THE DEMO TO MONITOR YOUR LIVE ETHERNET NETWORK...

- To view live traffic on your LAN, you'll need to install a
- packet driver (from the DRIVERS.ZIP file, which contains the
- drivers for 35 popular LAN cards). Any CRYNWR-style packet
- driver will work with the analyzers. For help on installing
- these drivers, select the "Help" option from the main menu of
- either product. We have placed a file called DOIT.BAT in this
- directory, that installs the driver for an NE2000-compatible
- card with default IRQ and I/O port settings. If you have another
- card or have special IRQ or I/O port settings, call us for details.
