  34. * Installation

  36.    Netscape Navigator 3.04 is being distributed as both a 16-bit
  37.    Windows program and a 32-bit Windows program.  Both the 16-bit
  38.    and 32-bit versions of Netscape are shipped in a Premium
  39.    package that includes Plug-ins, and a Standard package that
  40.    does not include Plug-ins.
  41.  
  42.    If you are running Windows 3.x or Windows for Workgroups,
  43.    you MUST use the 16-bit Navigator even if you have Win32s
  44.    installed. If you are running Windows 95 or Windows NT,
  45.    use the 32-bit Navigator.  To run the 32bit Navigator,
  46.    you MUST have a 32-bit TCP/IP stack.

  48.    Both Windows 95 and Windows NT provide built-in 32bit TCP/IP
  49.    stacks that you can setup.  You can also get (32 bit) TCP/IP
  50.    software from third party vendors like Trumpet Software,
  51.    and Ftp Software.

  53.    To obtain a copy of Netscape Navigator, download one of the
  54.    self-extracting executable files into a temporary directory.

  61.    16 bit users:  First double click on the self-extracting
  62.    file in the File Manager to extract the setup files,
  63.    then run "setup.exe" to install Netscape Navigator.

  65.    32-bit users, just double click on the self-extracting file
  66.    to automatically start the installation process.

  68. * Win95 users, if you are using any versions prior to this
  69.   release, you will get multiple uninstall entries in your
  70.   Add/Remove program.  If you prefer not having multiple
  71.   entries, you should do an uninstall to remove your previous
  72.   version of Netscape before you install the new release.

  74. * The Netscape Audio Plug-in will only work if you have a sound
  75.   card installed and configured properly.  It will not work
  76.   with the PC speaker driver. Please check your sound card manual
  77.   to configure the sound card.

  79. * If you had previously installed CoolTalk Watchdog, then you must
  80.   uninstall the version you have and reboot your machine before
  81.   installing the latest version.  You might experience some
  82.   problems running Cooltalk with Matrox MGA Millennium graphic 
  83.   adapters using early Windows95 drivers. Make sure that you are 
  84.   running version 2.22.039 or above.

  109. unable to install the Netscape Navigator unless you upgrade to

  139.                         Running Netscape

  142. What do I need to run Netscape Navigator?
  143.  
  144. You must have a direct Internet connection before you can use
  145. Netscape. The ability to send and receive e-mail does not
  146. necessarily mean you can run Netscape. There are three
  147. requirements for Netscape Navigator:
  148.  
  149.     1. A direct Ethernet connection to the net, or a dialup
  150.        SLIP or PPP account from an Internet service provider.
  151.  
  152.     2. TCP/IP stack
  153.  
  154.     3. Netscape Navigator software
  155.  
  156. You can get a direct connection to the Internet through a service
  157. provider in your area.  You will need to get a SLIP or a PPP
  158. account from an Internet provider (for a dialup account).
  159.  
  160. When you have full Internet connectivity, you need to have a
  161. TCP/IP stack, dialer, and WINSOCK.DLL file.
  162.  
  163. If you get the error message "Cannot find WINSOCK.DLL" when
  164. running Netscape Navigator, this means your computer is looking
  165. for the WINSOCK.DLL file which is part of the winsock package.

  171. The Netscape installer will overwrite existing OLE2 DLLs with the
  172. latest versions for US Windows. This will not affect 32-bit
  173. Windows. For 16-bit Windows, the only difference between the US
  174. and the Japanese versions are the internationalization of error
  175. strings. Occasionally, the Japanese user may see an English
  176. language OLE2 error message after installing Netscape. Currently,
  177. there are no Japanese versions available for the OLE2 DLLs.
  178. Netscape is working with Microsoft to make the Japanese version of
  179. the OLE2 DLLs available.
