  6. Thank you for purchasing Fast Edit 4.0.  This latest
  7. release of Fast Edit supports DirectX plug-ins, long 
  8. file names and includes many other improvements, while 
  9. retaining the functionality and feel of the original 
  10. program.
  11. ____________________________________________________

  13. Please ensure that you are installing Fast Edit from 
  14. the original manufacturer's CD.  You will be prompted 
  15. for this CD every 30 days or until you register the
  16. program with Minnetonka Audio Software.  Fast Edit
  17. provides an easy method of registering via email.  Go
  18. to the Help menu and select "About Fast Edit...".  In
  19. the "About Fast Edit" window, select the "Register" 
  20. button.  If your computer is properly configured to send
  21. email over the internet, hit 'Email' and Fast Edit 
  22. will generate the email message for you.  Then simply 
  23. send the message.  Minnetonka Audio Software will 
  24. respond to your registration within four business 
  25. days.  If you do not receive a response, Minnetonka 
  26. Audio Software did not receive your mail.  You may 
  27. also call Minnetonka Audio Software and register over 
  28. the telephone.

  31. Changes since release 4.0.20:
  32. 1.  Cursor position and selection area is now maintained after scrub.
  33. 2.  Save Selection is now available from the Read-Only window.
  34. 3.  All play commands now toggle play/stop (p, ctrl p, shift p, alt p).
  35. 4.  When pasting a file from a read-only source, such as a CD, from
  36.     the Read-Only Window to the Modify Window, the screen now correctly 
  37.     autoscales the waveform and no longer display a solid black waveform.

  43. 1.  End scrub leaves the cursor where it was placed

  49. 1.  Undo/Redo always places the cursor at the corresponding

  59. 1.  Fixed a bug where you could not save over a file
  60.     open in the read only window or a file that had

  63.     one file associated with the edit list.

  65.     to force save of wave data.  The only way to save 
  66.     an edit list is the Save Edit List command in the

  72. 1.  Added "User Interface" preferences under Options
  73.     menu allowing selection of alternative ways Fast
  74.     Edit will respond to commands.  This allows you
  75.     to configure Fast Edit 4.0 to respond similarily 
  76.     to the original Editor and Fast Edit products.
  77. 2.  You can now leave Primary and Secondary Temporary
  78.     directories blank in Options->Directories and Fast
  79.     Edit will use the Current Working Directory for 
  80.     temporary files.

  82. 4.  Modifying the time display options now updates 
  83.     the Time Scale in each wave window immediately.
  84. 5.  Edit lists are always loaded into Read-Only window.
  85. 6.  Saving a modified file as an edit list updates 
  86.     the Modify file name and behaves as previous versions.
  87. 7.  Insert Silence duration now remembers the last 
  88.     selected duration.
  89. 8.  Application of time-compressing plugins deletes the 
  90.     correct amount of data.
  91. 9.  Determines the actual amount of disk space available 
  92.     for recording on Windows 95 OSR/2, Windows 98, and 
  93.     Windows NT.
  94. 10. Delete Named Marker fixed.
  95. 11. Selecting the original Paste from a CopyPaste operation
  96.     in Edit History now restores the correct view.
  97. 12. Rescale no longer occurs after fades, cuts, etc.
  98. 13. If zoomed in and perform a manual crossfade, display no 
  99.     longer zooms out.
  100. 14. Speeded up the display after rescaling.
  101. 15. Zooming all the way out also restores the dB scale.
  102. 16. SaveAs dialog box defaults to the current .wav or .els
  103.     file name.
  104. 17. Marker names are no longer case sensitive.
  105. 18. Removed extra cursor drawn when a marker is dropped.
  106. 19. Display no longer changes dB scale when a command is
  107.     cancelled.
  108. 20. Dropping and editing markers in Read-Only window fixed.
  109. 21. Manual scaling now stops at 0 dB.
  110. 22. Automatic crossfades now use a common file.
  111. 23. Default sound devices are used if none specified.
  112. 24. Added option to hide the transport control window.
  113. 25. Added locked-waveforms support for display purposes.
  114. 26. 'P' and F4 keys stop playback if playing.
  115. 27. Crossfade button now displays current enabled state of 
  116.     Auto-Crossfade.
  117. 28. Insert key now pastes, in addition to Shift+Insert.
  118. 29. Fixed meta reference counting mechanism for checking file
  119.     use by edit lists on delete.

  122. 1.  Now restores selection and view on undo.
  123. 2.  Markers now restored after undo and redo.
  124. 3.  Fixed offline processing where it failed to stop.
  125. 4.  Edit lists (.els) now support silence files.

  127. 6.  Scrub fixed in Windows NT.
  128. 7.  DB scale now updates after all operations.

  131. 1.  Support for modifying playback and record buffer
  132.     sizes in Options->Memory Options.  This allows you
  133.     to customize Fast Edit's interaction with your
  134.     audio card.  Specifically for CardD users, select
  135.     a smaller buffer size (512 or 1024) to prevent gaps 
  136.     or skips in recorded audio.

  138. 2.  If a temp directory cannot be found (because the
  139.     specified directory is a removable or network drive),
  140.     Fast Edit now displays a warning.

  142. 3.  Saving over a file open in bottom window now closes
  143.     the file in bottom window.

  166. DirectX Installation:
  167. Fast Edit will install DirectX 5.0 on your system if it
  168. is not already present.  If you experience problems with
  169. DirectX plugins or general playback, check which version
  170. of DirectX is currently installed (Run DXInfo.exe).  
  171.  
  172. If you experience problems configuring plugins under 
  173. Windows 95 Release 1, please install DirectX 5.2 from the
  174. Fast Edit 4.0 Installation CD by running 
  175. "DirectX 5.2\X86\Sdxmedia.exe".
  176.  
  177. Windows NT requires DirectX 5.2.  Please ensure that 
  178. DirectX 5.2 is installed on your computer prior to 
  179. installing Fast Edit.  If it is not, please install 
  180. DirectX 5.2 from the Fast Edit 4.0 Installation CD 
  181. by running "DirectX 5.2\X86\Sdxmedia.exe".

  184. Notes:

  186. 1. Audio Formats
  187. Fast Edit supports 16- and 32-bit integer PCM audio 
  188. data.  You can open 24-bit packed files and export 
  189. to the 24-bit packed data format, but 24-bit files 
  190. are handled as 32-bit integer data.  Some DirectX 
  191. plugin manufacturers do not support 32-bit integer 
  192. audio data.  These plugins will not configure in 
  193. Fast Edit if currently set to process 32-bit audio.
  194.  
  195. 2. DAL CardD Users:
  196. If you are using Digital Audio Labs' CardD Plus with 
  197. the CardD driver version 3.40, you may experience a
  198. short glitch at the beginning of playback.  If you 
  199. experience this problem, please revert to CardD driver
  200. version 3.30, available at DAL's web site:
  201. www.digitalaudio.com.

  203. 3. Differences between previous versions and 
  204.    Fast Edit 4.0:
  205.    - Lock Waveforms is no longer supported
  206.    - Virtual 4-track playback is no longer supported
  207.    - MIDI-triggered record is no longer supported
