  11. What is Space Watch?
  12. ====================
  13. Space Watch is a sophisticated analysis tool designed by PC network managers 
  14. for PC network managers to help anyone with complex/large file storage 
  15. systems to identify where all that server or PC disk space has gone;  how 
  16. it's being used and how you can free up space painlessly-it is not yet 
  17. another simple file reporter, or a replacement Windows File Manager/Explorer.
  18. Questions like 'are my users installing their own programs' and 'which groups 
  19. are using the most space'are easily answered-as are more complex ones like 
  20. 'what's the age profile of my data - do I need an hierarchical storage 
  21. management system?'.

  23. What makes it Unique?

  25. * Off-line analysis     Get all your data - save it - then recall it later 
  26.             for analysis.
  27. * Spot unwanted,        Search for unwanted program files whilst ignoring 
  28.   ignore expected       those repeated Windows programs (including
  29.             Win95).
  30. * Compare new with old  Spot changes, additions, deletions to files and 
  31.             directories.
  32. * Tree summary          See total space used below specified directory levels.
  33. * Duplicates            Compare by name or exact matches:  ignore expected 
  34.             duplicates such as win.com.
  35. * Flexible summaries    Many summary options available, including largest/ 
  36.             oldest/newest files or directories, directory trees 
  37.             and file type distribution.
  38. * Powerful analyses     View graphically file distribution by size/date or 
  39.             directory distribution by size/average file size.
  40.             Most summaries and analysis results provide drill-
  41.             downs to a finer level of detail by double-clicking 
  42.             on a result which is of interest:  powerful file 
  43.             finder and directory finder available.
  44. * Active control        Use the file finder to move or delete selected files.  
  45.             A running total of space made free is automatically 
  46.             maintained;  as is a log of all changes made.
  47. * Full reporting        Most summaries and analyses can be printed as 
  48.             formatted reports or copied to other programs via 
  49.             the clipboard-in formats directly usable e.g. by 
  50.             spreadsheets.  All graphs can be cut and pasted in 
  51.             to WP programs.
  52. * System friendly       Data collection will take place whilst the program 
  53.             is minimised-a PC does not need to be dedicated to 
  54.             the task.  The loading on your server can be altered 
  55.             to allow data collection even at peak times.

  59. For analysis of large volumes we suggest a minimum 486/33 with 8MB RAM.  For 
  60. effective use of Space Watch we also recommend a display that works at 
  61. 1024x768 resolution.  Space Watch has many summary, analysis and 
  62. configuration windows and the screen can soon start to fill up!
