  14. LARGE CAPACITY CD-ROM DRIVE CABINETS

  16. WINTER PARK, FL--July 31, 1995-- Micro Design International,
  17. Inc. announces large capacity cabinets containing multiple
  18. CD-ROM drives for organizations needing a great deal of
  19. information near-line. Cabinet options include 28 or 49 CD-
  20. ROM drives furnished with MDI's CD-ROM Extenders. MDI's
  21. award-winning SCSI Express software enhances the
  22. functionality of the CD-ROM drives by offering transparent
  23. access and device management in a variety of environments.
  24. MDI's large capacity CD-ROM cabinets provide end-users with
  25. simplistic, expandable and flexible CD-ROM configurations.

  27. MDI offers two CD-ROM cabinet options:  a 28 CD-ROM drive,
  28. 48-inch cabinet; and a 49 CD-ROM drive, 72-inch cabinet.
  29. These cabinets are available with  SCSI Express quad-speed
  30. or six-speed CD-ROM drives providing outstanding performance
  31. specifications to meet a full range of requirements. These
  32. CD-ROM drives feature a 115-150ms random seek time, a 145-
  33. 190ms random access time, a 256KB cache and a sustained data
  34. transfer rate of 600 to 900KBps. The cabinet configurations
  35. include MDI's well-known CD-ROM Extender, which permits up
  36. to 49 CD-ROM drives per host adapter slot.

  38. Supported by MDI's award-winning SCSI Express software,
  39. these CD-ROM cabinets offer the user effortless access in
  40. Novell and Windows NT environments. MDI's SCSI Express 2.0
  41. for NetWare recently earned Network Computing magazine's
  42. prestigious Editor's Choice award as best of breed software
  43. for networking CD-ROMs. This version of SCSI Express is
  44. capable of creating single NetWare volume(s) out of multiple
  45. CD-ROMs, thus bypassing previous system volume and drive-
  46. letter limitations. SCSI Express also supports optical
  47. multifunction stand-alone devices, hard disk and DAT drives.

  49. Prices for the CD-ROM cabinets range from $19,995 to
  50. $49,995. MDI also offers CD-ROM kits for those with existing
  51. cabinet space.  These kits include seven CD-ROM drives in a
  52. sliding rack for easy installation, with an optional CD-ROM
  53. Extender. Prices for these kits range from $3,495 to $4,695.
  54. MDI also offers unfilled cabinets for those organizations
  55. wanting to customize their drive configuration within the
  56. cabinet.
