  1. Dear CA-Clipper 5.3 Developer,

  3.      This file contains the instructions for applying the CA-Clipper 5.3
  4.      CLIPPER.EXE patch. This patch updates the released 5.3 version of 
  5.      CLIPPER.EXE (both U.S. and International). It also installs a new file
  6.      called OPTEDIT.EXE in the BIN directory.
  7.  
  8.      Please review these instructions carefully before attempting to apply 
  9.      the patch.

  11. NOTE:

  13.      If you have downloaded this patch disk as a file, the contents of the
  14.      archive should be copied to a disk for the installer to work correctly.

  19. A. Instructions for patching CA-Clipper 5.3 CLIPPER.EXE.
  20.  
  21. REQUIRED FILES FOR PERFORMING UPDATE:
  22.  
  23.    PATCH.EXE            Patch utility. This file is also in Library 0 
  24.                         of the CA-CLIPPER CompuServe forum.
  25.  
  26.    INSTALL.EXE          Installation utility required for performing the 
  27.                         CA-Clipper 5.3 patch.
  28.  
  29.    DISK.ID              Installation identification file.
  30.  
  31.    INSTALL.DAT          Installation script file.
  32.  
  33.    OPTED.LIF            Compressed file for OPTEDIT.EXE
  34.  
  35.    CLIP.RTP             Update file for CLIPPER.EXE
  36.  
  37.    OPTEDIT.TXT          File containing instructions on how to use OPTEDIT.

  40. UPDATE PROCESS:
  41.  
  42. 1.   o    Insert the Installation diskette in drive A (or B).
  43.           NOTE: If you downloaded this patch, you should extract the
  44.           contents of the PATCH53.EXE file to a floppy drive.  The
  45.           installation program expects to be run from a diskette.
  46.           If you run from a subdirectory, an error will occur and the
  47.           installation program will abort.

  49. 2.   o    Move to your CA-Clipper 5.3 directory.
  50.                 EXAMPLE: C:\> CD\CLIP53
  51.  
  52. 3.   o    Backup your current version of CA-Clipper CLIPPER.EXE.

  54. 4.   o    Move to the disk drive where the patch diskette is located.
  55.                 EXAMPLE: C:\> A:

  57. 5.   o    Execute the installation program and follow the simple 
  58.           instructions.
  59.                 EXAMPLE: A:\> INSTALL

  61. 6.   o    Compare the date and time stamps of the updated files against 
  62.           the file list below. If you have encountered a problem that 
  63.           you are unable to correct, call your CA-Clipper Technical 
  64.           Support representative.
