  29. NetCarta(TM) Corporation WELCOMES YOU to the 
  30. exciting world of Cyberspace Cartography!

  32. With this Beta release of CyberPilot(TM) Pro, you'll be 
  33. able to zoom over the World Wide Web, pinpointing 
  34. the exact information you need. CyberPilot Pro lets 
  35. you use published NetCarta WebMaps(TM), and you 
  36. can also create your own WebMaps of your favorite 
  37. sites.

  39. To date, CyberPilot Pro is compatible with the 
  40. following Web browsers. For more information, see 
  41. Section 3, "Browser Compatibility."

  47. The NetCarta team thanks you for choosing to test 
  48. "fly" CyberPilot Pro. As a Public Beta there will be 
  49. some "turbulence." To get information on the 
  50. problems that we know about, you should read 
  51. through the rest of this Read Me file, especially the 
  52. Known Bugs section. For any problems that we don't 
  53. know about yet, we appreciate your help in 
  54. uncovering and reporting them. Please visit the 
  55. NetCarta Web site (www.netcarta.com) to report any 
  56. problems you uncover.

  58. Note that this version of CyberPilot Pro will expire 
  59. after March 24, 1996. You're encouraged to 
  60. frequently return to the NetCarta Web site to refresh 
  61. your Beta software.

  65. SECTION 2 - Purchases
  66.  
  67. Because CyberPilot Pro is currently in Beta, it is not 
  68. available for immediate purchase. Shortly after 
  69. February 20, 1996, you'll be able to place advanced 
  70. purchase orders for CyberPilot Pro in one of two 
  71. ways: using the NetCarta Merchant at 
  72. www.netcarta.com or by calling 1 (800) 461-2449.

  76. SECTION 3 - Hardware and Software Requirements
  77.  
  78. CyberPilot Pro requires the following software and 
  79. hardware environment.

  85.      An Internet browser such as Netscape  
  86.      Navigator(TM),  Spyglass Enhanced Mosaic or

  90.      plug-ins for multimedia data

  92. Hardware Requirements:

  94.      Intel 486 50mhz or equivalent processor (Pentium 
  95.      or equivalent recommended)
  96.      16 MB RAM
  97.      1.5 MB disk space for the program
  98.      1.5MB disk space for documentation and sample
  99.      maps
  100.      28.8 baud modem or direct Internet connection

  104. SECTION 4 - Browser Compatibility
  105.  
  106. CyberPilot Pro works seamlessly with your favorite 
  107. browser application. When you double-click an item 
  108. in a NetCarta WebMap, the program loads the 
  109. selected page/object into your Web browser, 
  110. automatically launching the browser if necessary. In 
  111. addition, as you navigate in your browser, CyberPilot 
  112. Pro highlights the corresponding object in the map.
  113.  
  114. Because the communication mechanism between 
  115. CyberPilot Pro and any given Web browser varies 
  116. widely from vendor to vendor, we've tested 
  117. CyberPilot Pro with the most popular browsers. The 
  118. following browsers have been verified to work with 
  119. CyberPilot Pro:
  120.  
  121.      Netscape Navigator 1.2, 2.0 (beta 1-5 and later)
  122.      Spyglass Enhanced Mosaic 2.0
  123.      Internet Assistant 2.0 (beta 1-2 and later)
  124.  
  125. If you're running previous versions of these products, 
  126. we recommend that you upgrade to the newer 
  127. versions.

  129. Browsers not on our list may indeed work; try your 
  130. browser out and see. If you have problems, try one or 
  131. both of the following:
  132.  
  133. 1) Choose Browser Configuration from the
  134. CyberPilot Pro View menu to make sure that the
  135. correct browser is configured.  Specify a full path
  136. to the browser's executable file.
  137.  
  138. 2) Launch your browser before launching
  139. CyberPilot Pro or before double-clicking a
  140. WebMap item.
  141.  
  142. We're aware of some problems with specific 
  143. browsers, especially those that are provided as part of 
  144. private online services (see the following list). 
  145. CyberPilot Pro should work with these browsers by 
  146. the final release.

  156. SECTION 5 - Installation  
  157.  
  158. 1) Locate the serial number from the card inside your 
  159. CyberPilot Pro package.
  160.  
  161. 2) Insert the diskette labeled Disk 1 of 2.
  162.  
  163. 3) Double-click the file SETUP.EXE to start the 
  164. CyberPilot Pro installation program.
  165.  
  166. 4) Follow the onscreen instructions, which will guide 
  167. you through the entire installation process. Be sure to 
  168. read the NetCarta End User License Agreement when 
  169. it appears during the installation.

  238. SECTION 7 - Using CyberPilot Pro with a Proxy
  239.             Server
  240.  
  241. If you're on a network that uses a Proxy Server to 
  242. access the Internet, you must configure CyberPilot 
  243. Pro to recognize your Proxy Server. If you are not 
  244. sure whether you use a Proxy Server, contact your 
  245. network system administrator. (If you try to map Web 
  246. sites, and your maps continuously display 
  247. unreachable home pages (displayed in red), then you 
  248. may be using a Proxy Server.)
  249.  
  250. Your network system administrator should know the 
  251. Proxy address, or you can get it directly from your 
  252. browser configuration. The address should be a URL 
  253. containing the protocol type, Internet domain name, 
  254. and port number; for example, 
  255. http://zoomer.netcarta.com:8080.

  257. To configure CyberPilot Pro for a Proxy Server:
  258.  
  259. 1) Double-click Set Proxy in the NetCarta program 
  260. group. 
  261.  
  262. 2) In the DOS window that appears, type 1 and press 
  263. Enter to enter your Proxy Server URL. If you want to 
  264. delete Proxy information, type 2. If you want to 
  265. display the existing CyberPilot Pro Proxy 
  266. information, type 3.

  268. 3) Type 4 to exit.

  272. SECTION 8 - Tutorial 
  273.  
  274. You'll find the CyberPilot Pro tutorial, "A trip to 
  275. Hawaii with CyberPilot Pro," in the Tutorial 
  276. subdirectory of your CyberPilot Pro installation 
  277. directory. Simply double-click the file 
  278. CPPTUTOR.HTM to open the tutorial in your Web 
  279. browser. We recommend that you work from a 
  280. printed copy of the tutori
