SECTION 1 - Welcome
NetCarta(TM) Corporation WELCOMES YOU to the
exciting world of Cyberspace Cartography!
With this Beta release of CyberPilot(TM) Pro, you'll be
able to zoom over the World Wide Web, pinpointing
the exact information you need. CyberPilot Pro lets
you use published NetCarta WebMaps(TM), and you
can also create your own WebMaps of your favorite
sites.
To date, CyberPilot Pro is compatible with the
following Web browsers. For more information, see
Section 3, "Browser Compatibility."
Netscape Navigator 1.2, 2.0 (beta 1-5 and later)
Spyglass Enhanced Mosaic 2.0
Internet Explorer 2.0 (beta 1-2 and later)
The NetCarta team thanks you for choosing to test
"fly" CyberPilot Pro. As a Public Beta there will be
some "turbulence." To get information on the
problems that we know about, you should read
through the rest of this Read Me file, especially the
Known Bugs section. For any problems that we don't
know about yet, we appreciate your help in
uncovering and reporting them. Please visit the
NetCarta Web site (www.netcarta.com) to report any
problems you uncover.
Note that this version of CyberPilot Pro will expire
after March 24, 1996. You're encouraged to
frequently return to the NetCarta Web site to refresh
your Beta software.
SECTION 2 - Purchases
Because CyberPilot Pro is currently in Beta, it is not
available for immediate purchase. Shortly after
February 20, 1996, you'll be able to place advanced
purchase orders for CyberPilot Pro in one of two
ways: using the NetCarta Merchant at
www.netcarta.com or by calling 1 (800) 461-2449.
SECTION 3 - Hardware and Software Requirements
CyberPilot Pro requires the following software and
hardware environment.
Software Requirements:
Windows 95 or Windows NT version 3.51
An Internet browser such as Netscape
Navigator(TM), Spyglass Enhanced Mosaic or
Internet Explorer
Appropriate helper applications and Netscape(TM)
plug-ins for multimedia data
Hardware Requirements:
Intel 486 50mhz or equivalent processor (Pentium
or equivalent recommended)
16 MB RAM
1.5 MB disk space for the program
1.5MB disk space for documentation and sample
maps
28.8 baud modem or direct Internet connection
SECTION 4 - Browser Compatibility
CyberPilot Pro works seamlessly with your favorite
browser application. When you double-click an item
in a NetCarta WebMap, the program loads the
selected page/object into your Web browser,
automatically launching the browser if necessary. In
addition, as you navigate in your browser, CyberPilot
Pro highlights the corresponding object in the map.
Because the communication mechanism between
CyberPilot Pro and any given Web browser varies
widely from vendor to vendor, we've tested
CyberPilot Pro with the most popular browsers. The
following browsers have been verified to work with
CyberPilot Pro:
Netscape Navigator 1.2, 2.0 (beta 1-5 and later)
Spyglass Enhanced Mosaic 2.0
Internet Assistant 2.0 (beta 1-2 and later)
If you're running previous versions of these products,
we recommend that you upgrade to the newer
versions.
Browsers not on our list may indeed work; try your
browser out and see. If you have problems, try one or
both of the following:
1) Choose Browser Configuration from the
CyberPilot Pro View menu to make sure that the
correct browser is configured. Specify a full path
to the browser's executable file.
2) Launch your browser before launching
CyberPilot Pro or before double-clicking a
WebMap item.
We're aware of some problems with specific
browsers, especially those that are provided as part of
private online services (see the following list).
CyberPilot Pro should work with these browsers by
the final release.
America Online
NetCom NetCruiser
Prodigy
CompuServe
Quarterdeck Mosaic
SECTION 5 - Installation

SECTION 7 - Using CyberPilot Pro with a Proxy
Server
If you're on a network that uses a Proxy Server to
access the Internet, you must configure CyberPilot
Pro to recognize your Proxy Server. If you are not
sure whether you use a Proxy Server, contact your
network system administrator. (If you try to map Web
sites, and your maps continuously display
unreachable home pages (displayed in red), then you
may be using a Proxy Server.)
Your network system administrator should know the
Proxy address, or you can get it directly from your
browser configuration. The address should be a URL
containing the protocol type, Internet domain name,
and port number; for example,
http://zoomer.netcarta.com:8080.
To configure CyberPilot Pro for a Proxy Server:
1) Double-click Set Proxy in the NetCarta program
group.
2) In the DOS window that appears, type 1 and press
Enter to enter your Proxy Server URL. If you want to
delete Proxy information, type 2. If you want to
display the existing CyberPilot Pro Proxy
information, type 3.
3) Type 4 to exit.
SECTION 8 - Tutorial
You'll find the CyberPilot Pro tutorial, "A trip to
Hawaii with CyberPilot Pro," in the Tutorial
subdirectory of your CyberPilot Pro installation
directory. Simply double-click the file
CPPTUTOR.HTM to open the tutorial in your Web
browser. We recommend that you work from a
printed copy of the tutori
