  1.     NewsCIS is an OFFLINE reader/replier for Compuserve's "Usenet Newsgroups".

  6.     and mathematics, to recreational topics such as sports and movies.

  20.     Using NewsCIS, you can:

  61.     of your first TWO active Newsgroups.

  63.     Upon registering NewsCIS, TorqueWare (author of NewsCIS), will E-Mail 
  64.     you a file that restores UNLIMITED usage.  You will also be provided 
  65.     E-Mail support from TorqueWare through Compuserve's E-Mail system, 
  66.     and through TorqueWare's Web Page on the Internet (under construction at 
  67.     http://www.torqueware.com)  The Web Page will have updated lists of 
  68.     Newsgroups, Troubleshooting,  and information about any NewsCIS 
  69.     updates and other products offered by TorqueWare.

  78.         *  9/1/95 to 12/23/95  *
  79.  
  80.         *  An extra field, "Logon Parameters", was added under the 
  81.            "Modem" section in "Settings".  You will not need to enter
  82.            anything here unless instructed by a TorqueWare Customer
  83.            Service Representative.

  85.         *  Some people received an "OK" prompt from CompuServe after 
  86.            connecting, and NewsCIS wasn't properly handling this.  This
  87.            is fixed.  If you had entered "GO FREE" or "EXIT" in the "Logon 
  88.            Parameters" field to bypass this, you will need to take it out now.

  90.         *  When sending REPLIES to articles, there were occasional modem 
  91.            timing problems, resulting in a "You are no longer subscribed
  92.            to [Newsgroup Name]" error message.  This has been fixed.
  93.  
  94.         *  NewsCIS now supports SprintNet, Tymnet, DataPac & Mercury 5000.
  95.  
  96.         *  Added a "Force Connect" option in the Modem settings.  If you 
  97.            received a "CONNECT" message after NewsCIS dialed CompuServe, but 
  98.            no connection was made after that, check the "Force Connect" box 
  99.            to force NewsCIS to continue with the connection process.  This
  100.            has cleared up several problems with countries OUTSIDE THE U.S.
  101.  
  102.         *  Added a "Disconnect After Session" option in the Modem settings.
  103.            By checking this box, NewsCIS will automatically LOG OFF from
  104.            CompuServe after performing activites that required connecting
  105.            to CompuServe (Downloading articles, uploading replies & mail, etc.)
  106.  
  107.         *  Added a HELP button in "Edit/Add/Activate Newsgroups", providing 
  108.            instructions on how to activate Newsgroups that are NOT listed.
  109.  
  110.         *  Fixed a problem where some people were not able to "Subscribe" 
  111.            to Newsgroups if they had not previously subscribed to at least
  112.            ONE Newsgroup using any other type of program (WinCIM, etc.)
  113.  
  114.         *  Made several "Preference Setting" adjustments in response to
  115.            some changes made by CompuServe.  This brought NewsCIS "down"
  116.            for a period of about two weeks until these changes were made.
  117.            (on 11/23/95...yes that's right, on Thanksgiving!  Aaarghh! )

  119.         *  12/23/95 Still grappling with the changes made by CompuServe.  
  120.            Fixed some problems of hanging, etc. after NewsCIS sent "GO USE-H"
  121.            when accessing Newsgroups.

  123.         * 1/17/96 Fixed the occassional "No Newsgroups Have Active Articles"
  124.           message that appeared when there were in fact articles to download.

  128.     If you have not already installed the program, here are the steps
  129.     necessary to get you up and running...
  130.  
  131.     1) Copy "NewsCIS.Zip" onto your hard drive (if you did not download
  132.        it from CompuServe).
  133.  
  134.     2) From DOS, type "PKUNZIP NewsCIS.Zip".  This will extract all of the
  135.        files within NewsCIS.Zip that are necessary for the system to INSTALL.

  137.                         *** NOTE ***
  138.  
  139.           If you do not have PkUnZip.Exe, you can download a 
  140.           file called "PK204G.EXE" from the WinShare forum 
  141.           [GO WINSHARE] Library #1.  Once you receive it, 
  142.           type PK204G.EXE, and this self-extracting file will
  143.           create PkUnZip.Exe for you.  Repeat step #2.
  144.  
  145.     3) From Windows click on FILE, RUN, (from Win95...START, RUN), and 
  146.        enter the drive\path to the location that has the NewsCIS files,
  147.        and enter "Setup.Exe"
  148.  
  149.             Example:  C:\TEMP\SETUP.EXE
  150.  
  151.     4) That's all there is to it!  The Setup program will install all of
  152.        the NewsCIS files to the directory you designate, and will also
  153.        install certain files into your Windows/Win95 directories that 
  154.        enable NewsCIS to run.
  155.  
  156.                         *** Note ***
  157.  
  158.           If your Windows/Win95 SYSTEM directory (usually C:\WIN\SYSTEM)
  159.           does NOT have "VBRUN300.DLL" and/or "THREED.VBX", you will need to
  160.           download these (VBRUN3.ZIP and THREED.VBX) from the WinShare forum 
  161.           [GO WINSHARE] Library #1. Copy them (and Pkunzip VBRUN3.ZIP) into 
  162.           your Windows/Win95 SYSTEM directory.  If you do NOT have these, 
  163.           you will get a message from NewsCIS telling you that it can't find 
  164.           a file, and you will not be able to run it.

  166.     Be sure to read the HELP information when you run the program (press F1)
  167.

  172.     You can MANUALLY help install NewsCIS by following these steps...

  174.         1) Perform steps #1 and #2 as outlined above.
  175.             ( I'll assume all of the files are now in C:\TEMP\*.* )

  177.         2) From DOS, go into your Windows/Win95 directory
  178.             ( Usually located in C:\WIN )
  179.  
  180.             Example:

  182.                      CD \WIN

  184.         3) Type the following line:

  186.                 EXPAND C:\TEMP\SETUP1.EX_ SETUP1.EXE
  187.  
  188.         4) Go into your Windows/Win95 SYSTEM directory
  189.             ( Usually located in C:\WIN\SYSTEM )

  191.             Example:

  193.                      CD \WIN\SYSTEM

  195.         5) Type the following lines:

  197.                 EXPAND C:\TEMP\SETUPKIT.DL_ SETUPKIT.DLL
  198.                 EXPAND C:\TEMP\QPRO200.DL_  QPRO200.DLL
  199.                 EXPAND C:\TEMP\CSVLIST.VB_  CSVLIST.VBX
  200.                 EXPAND C:\TEMP\PDQCOMM2.VB_ PDQCOMM2.VBX

  202.         6) From Windows click on FILE, RUN, (from Win95...START, RUN), and 
  203.             enter the drive\path to the location that has the NewsCIS
  204.             files and enter "Setup.Exe"
  205.  
  206.             Example:  C:\TEMP\SETUP.EXE

  208.     Your installation should now proceed smoothly.  If it does NOT, E-Mail
  209.     us at 76460,1305 for support.
