SeeMail V2.0 for Windows!
Here are the technical notes for SeeMail V2.0 users, followed
by the electronic version of the User Manual for SeeMail V2.0:
1) How do I send a SeeMail to someone without a camera?
ANSWER: Use RECV.EXE:
Included in this distribution is a self-extracting version
of the receive-only version of SeeMail for Windows.
If you'd like to send a SeeMail to a person who does not
have a copy of SeeMail for Windows, you can send RECV.EXE
to the other party via e-mail, from the Web, etc.
When the other party has a copy of RECV.EXE, he/she should
run RECV.EXE. This will extract two files, SEEMAIL.EXE and
CRUSHER.DLL into the current directory. The other party can
now run SEEMAIL.EXE from windows to un-compress and display
your SeeMail file.
Note: SEEMAIL.EXE and CRUSHER.DLL can be moved into any
directory as long as both of them are in the same directory.
2. Can SeeMail launch from my e-mail system automatically?
ANSWER: Yes:
There are two Eudora plug-ins included with SeeMail V2.0.
The two plug-ins will allow you to launch SeeMail from within
Eudora. One plug-in is 16-bit and one is 32-bit.
NOTE: The plug-in currently only works if you've installed
SeeMail in C:\Seemail and you're using Eudora 3.0 or greater.
The plug-in is not necessary to integrate SeeMail with Eudora
but is provided as a convienient way of launching SeeMail from
within Eudora.
Also, SeeMail V2.0 can launch from any e-mail system by providing
path to SeeMail, which is C:\Seemail\Seemail.exe when prompted
for this information by your WINDOWS system.
(In windows, it is possible to associate a type of datafile with a
program (for example, when a file that has an extension of .TXT is
double-clicked on within windows it is opened-up in a text
editor). The same type of association is possible with SeeMail
datafiles. However, since we only allow one instance of SeeMail
to be active at a time, double-clicking on two datafiles will only
bring up one copy of SeeMail.)
3. Can SeeMail launch my e-mail system automatically?
ANSWER: Yes, with SeeMail's MAPI support:
SeeMail now supports Windows' MAPI, which will allow a user to
send an e-mail directly from SeeMail to the e-mail package that
MAPI is installed to interact with. Currently, SeeMail's MAPI
support has been tested with Windows95's e-mail system and Eudora
3.0 beta 11. If SeeMail fails to find your e-mail system, make
sure that MAPI is working:
(i.e. Eudora's MAPI server needs to be turned on and is
located in Eudora at "Tools" -> "Options" -> "MAPI")
Also, you can edit the SEEMAIL.INI file in your SEEMAIL directory
to open any e-mail system on your computer; just provide the correct
path name to your e-mail system (if different from the Eudora and
Microsoft Mail paths that are provided with this release.)
UNINSTALLING SEEMAIL:
SeeMail doesn't install any files into your windows or
windows\system directory, so to uninstall SeeMail, just
delete the directory containing SeeMail.exe and the SeeMail\
program group.
WINDOWS NT SUPPORT:
SeeMail currently runs under WINDOWS NT, but since the
Connectix QuickCam isn't compatible, RealMedia will not supply
you with customer support with regard to WINDOWS NT. You may
want to use SeeMail with some other type of camera that works
with WINDOWS NT. In this case, SeeMail should work fine as
long as the video driver for your camera is "Video for Windows"
compatible.
Electonic User Manual for SeeMail V2.0:
Taking a SeeMail Picture
1. The Send side (right side) has "Last Picture Taken" over the image. Underneath the picture is the
SeeMail control panel.
2. To take a picture, click once on Compose Picture. This activates the Connectix camera and allows you
to frame your picture just the way you want it and to adjust the brightness. You'll notice that the Compose
Picture button changes to Capture Picture.
3. Take your time and compose your shot. You'll notice the Control Brightness button next to Compose
Picture. Click on this button and a dialogue box called Camera Adjustments will appear. It has three
separate adjustments for your camera. Refer to your Connectix user guide for easy to follow instructions.
When you've made your adjustments, click OK.
5. You're ready to shoot. To take a picture, click once on Capture Picture. You will hear the shutter go
off. Voila! You have created a SeeMail photo! It is displayed in the right hand frame.
6. Don't like it? No problem. You'll notice that as soon as you selected Capture Picture, the button
returned to Compose Picture. To take another (and hopefully better!) picture, click on Compose Picture
and repeat the previous steps until you get the perfect shot.
Recording your voice
1. You've created your picture; now you can record your voice message. You'll notice that under the
picture you just created is a speaker icon. To the right are two buttons: Play and Record
2. To record a message, click once on the Record button. You'll notice that this turns to Stop. That's so
you won't have to move your mouse to stop your recording.
3. After you have selected Record, speak (or sing if you want!) into your microphone. This will either be
in your computer, an external microphone, or the one supplied with your Connectix camera. Experiment to
find which gives you the best quality.
4. When you have finished your recording, simply click on Stop.
5. To listen to your recording, click on Play. (This also turns to Stop so you don't have to move your
mouse.)
6. Don't like it? A bit off key? Again, it's no problem. Just clear your throat, rehearse your lines and
select Record and repeat the previous steps.
To Send your SeeMail
1. After you have created a picture and a sound recording, select Send. You do this by clicking on the
button by the arrow above the screen.
2. A dialog box will appear with a default name. To use the default name, SeeMail.see, just select "OK".
But we recommend choosing your own file names, such as "Mom96.see" or "Send$.see". Besides having
more character than "SeeMail.see", they'll be easier to remember later. Then click OK.
3. If your have a MAPI compatible e-mail system, then SeeMail will automatically launch your e-mail
package, with a new message and your SeeMail already attached. You'll notice your cursor is now in the
address box. Type in the address, and if you wish, create a written e-mail message. If your e-mail system is
not launched, then all you need to do is attach the SeeMail you just created to the next e-mail you want to
send.
4. Press Send for your written e-mail, and your written message and your attached SeeMail is on the way!
Receiving SeeMail
1. To receive a SeeMail communication, open your e-mail message that has been sent with a SeeMail
attached file.
NOTE: Different e-mail programs have different ways of notifying you that you have received a SeeMail.
Some have a line that will notify you that you have an attachment and name the file. Any filename that
ends with .see is a SeeMail. Other e-mail systems will give you a screen that asks if you want to Download
the file. Refer to your e-mail program manual or select HELP from your e-mail program.
2. Simply double-click on the .SEE attachment and your SeeMail program will open.
3. Select the Zoom button if you want to view a full screen image. Enjoy!
SENDING THE RECEIVE PORTION OR VIEWER SOFTWARE TO A FRIEND
*Important. The Receive Software on your disk is for PC Windows users only. MacIntosh and PC
versions of the Receive software may also be downloaded for free from our Web Site at
http://www.realmediainc.com.
1) Prepare the written e-mail message as you normally would to send it to a recipient. You'll probably tell
them you are sending them some free RECEIVE SeeMail software!
2) Load your authorized disk of SeeMail.
3) Find the Attachment button in your e-mail program
4) When you are prompted by your e-mail system for the file to be attached, locate "recv.exe" in your
SeeMail software, and hit enter.
5. Now, send the e-mail to your recipient with the following instructions:
a) create a directory named c:\receive
b) save the recv.exe file in that directory;
c) double-click on that file from your File Manager or Windows Explorer to execute the
program.
