  7. The ZIP archive you just opened contained an -AV envelope.

  12. If the archive fails the authentication test, please do NOT use
  13. it and inform support@avp.ch immediately. Please only download
  14. the distribution archive from an official source (such as an
  15. authorized AVP distributor). Some BBSs are repacking ZIP archives
  16. and add their own -AV envelopes. If you consider your BBS a trustworthy
  17. source, then you shouldn't worry. An additional level of security is
  18. provided through PGP digital signature (see below).

  21. PGP digital signature
  22. ---------------------

  24. To check the authenticity of the file SETUP.EXE, you need
  25. PGP, Pretty Good privacy. This file however is not a tutorial on how to
  26. use PGP, it is assumed you know how to use it.

  28. The file "SETUP.ASC" contains a detached digital signature.
  29.  
  30. To get the necessary PGP public, send an empty mail to: pgp@metro.ch -
  31. within a minute or so, you will receive the necessary PGP public key you
  32. have to add to your public key ring.

  34. Check the integrity of SETUP.EXE like this:

  36. pgp setup.asc setup.exe

  38. PGP will output a message like this:

  41. Good signature from user "Gerard Vuille <gerard.vuille@metro.ch>".

  44. If you get a "bad signature" message, you are either using a
  45. wrong public key from us, or the file has been tampered with.
  46. Should the latter be the case, contact us immediately (support@avp.ch) and
  47. don't run the archive.
