The rocks of the Witswatersrand Goldfields are an example of
sedimentry rocks, which were originally deposited in a huge
inland sea about 2700 million years ago. They consist of
sandstone, mudstone and conglomerates all laid down, over
millions of years on top of one another.
Gold and uranium are mined from these rocks.
