Retirement benefits Current contributions to pension and retirement funds operated for employees are charged against income as incurred. The funds are actuarially valued at intervals of three years. The deficits determined on the Telkom Pension and Retirement Funds are charged against income based on a proportional percentage method of employee salaries calculated over a period of fifteen years from 1 October 1991. Post-retirement medical benefits The Group provides post-retirement benefits by way of medical aid schemes for employees. Provision is made for the amounts due in respect of retirees of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications as at 1 October 1991.
