FEBRUARY 11, 1975 Elected first female leader of the Conservative party. MAY 3, 1979 Becomes first female prime minister of Great Britain. APRIL 27, 1982 Declares war against Argentina, following invasion of the Falkland Islands. NOVEMBER 22, 1990 Resigns after failing to win outright victory in the leadership contest and is replaced by John Major. JANUARY 1992 Created a life peer, becoming Baroness Thatcher of Kesteven.
