AUGUST 1982 Announces his appointment as director of Paris Opera Ballet (appointment taken up in the autumn of 1983). NOVEMBER 1987 Returns to Russia to visit sick mother. JANUARY 6, 1993 Dies in Paris, age 53, from cardiac complications resulting from AIDS.
