OCR: CHRONOLOGY AUGUST 31, 1870 Bom in Rome, Italy. 1894 Graduates in medicine from the University of Rome. 1897-99 Researches child development in psychiatric clinics. 1898 Gives birth to a son, who is fostered as she is unmarried. 1899-1901 Teaches and also trains teachers in a school for children with special needs. 1907 Opens the Casa dei Bambini in San Lorenzo, a poor district of Rome. 1909 Publishes "Il metodo della pedagogia scientifica," which appeared in English as "The Montessori Method" in 1912. 1934 Flees the Italian Fascist government, continuing her work in Spain, and later around the world. MAY 6, 1952 Dies of a cerebral hemorrhage at Noordwijk aan Zee, near The Hague, Holland.
