OCR: CHRONOLOGY JULY 21, 1899 Bom Emest Miller Hemingway, in Oak Park, Illinois, the first son of a doctor. JULY 1917 Starts work as a junior reporter for the Kansas City Star. APRIL 1918 Wounded by a mortar shell at Fossalta di Piave, Italy, and awarded a medal for bravery. 1921 Moves to Paris. 1936 Sent to Spain as a war correspondent and becomes involved with the Republican cause. 1940 Publication of "For Whom the Bell Tolls." JUNE 6, 1944 Attaches himself to the 22nd Regiment of the 4th Infantry Division following the Allied landings in Normandy. DECEMBER 10, 1954 Awarded the Nobel prize for literature. JULY 2, 1961 Commits suicide in Ketchum, Idaho.
