- THE MPEG-FAQ [Version 3.2 - 22. Aug 1994]

-
- ===========================================================================
-
- This is my summary about MPEG.
-
- It's the fifth publication of this file. Lots of information has been
- added (which has surely brought errors with it, see Murphy's Law).
-
- This fifth addition is not really different to the previous one.
-
- ===========================================================================
-
- You should receive seven files called:
-
- MPEG-FAQ: multimedia compression [0/6] <- that's this file
- MPEG-FAQ: multimedia compression [1/6] <- that are the six parts of
- MPEG-FAQ: multimedia compression [2/6] <- the MPEG-FAQ-text-file
- MPEG-FAQ: multimedia compression [3/6]
- MPEG-FAQ: multimedia compression [4/6]
- MPEG-FAQ: multimedia compression [5/6]
- MPEG-FAQ: multimedia compression [6/6]
-
-
- UNPACKING the FAQ-File
- ========================
-
- Save the six files in the right order to ONE file, strip every header-
- information of the file and there you are.
-
-
- INDEX-files
- =============
-
- The INDEX-files are excluded in this release of the MPEG-FAQ.
- You can ftp it from the same place you got this file from.
- My home-site is:
-
- host: ftp.cs.tu-berlin.de (130.149.17.7) or
- quepasa.cs.tu-berlin.de
- file: /pub/msdos/dos/graphics/mpegfa11.zip
- file: /pub/msdos/dos/graphics/mpegfa20.zip
- file: /pub/msdos/dos/graphics/mpegfa30.zip
- file: /pub/msdos/dos/graphics/mpegfa31.zip
-
- and the current FAQ lies right now under (but will be moved to
- /pub/msdos/dos/graphics soon):
-
- file: /pub/msdos/dos/graphics or
- file: /pub/msdos/incoming
-
- It should be usally called MPGIDX31.ZIP ! It includes the
- INDEX-file (first picture of all known MPEG-movies), the AINDEX-file
- (about 2 seconds of know MPEG-AUDIO-streams in one MPEG-stream) and
- text-indexes for movies and audio-files.
-
- You can always get the newest version of the FAQ and the index-file
- via Mosaic at http://www.cs.tu-berlin.de/~phade
-
-
-
- SYSADM
- ========
-
- If you are a system-administrator please ensure NOT to delete the old version
- of the MPEG-FAQ. Please store the new version as MPEGFA32.TXT on your local
- ftp-server or BSS and compress it to your needs, but be sure the name
- MPEGFA31 is included (hopefully in big letters) in the final name.
-
-
- NEWS
- ======
-
- The FAQ itself will be posted as txt-file and the index-mpg-file will be
- posted to alt.binaries.multimedia
-
-
- ERRORS
- ========
-
- If you can't unpack the FAQ, please reply immediately to me:

-
- to prevent others from the same errors ...
