  16.     This week's Report covers the time period from midnight Thursday
  17.     morning, February 23, Pacific Standard Time, to midnight 
  18.     Wednesday night, March 1, 1995, Pacific Standard Time.  We 
  19.     recorded 281 earthquakes of M1.0 or larger during the 7-day period 
  20.     covered.
  21.         The largest quakes this week were also the most widely
  22.     felt.  A pair of M3.7's occurred 20 seconds apart early Wednesday
  23.     morning, about 11 miles W of Palos Verdes Point.  They were felt
  24.     in the South Bay and West L.A. areas, as well as San Fernando
  25.     Valley.  They were followed by four aftershocks ranging from 2.0
  26.     to 2.8 within the next four minutes.  As regular readers of this
  27.     Report know, the offshore region, known as the Continental
  28.     Borderland, is a fairly active area, so these quakes were no
  29.     surprise.  They were not aftershocks of any previous quake.
  30.         Two quakes near Yucca Valley (a M3.2 and a M3.0) were felt
  31.     on Monday morning.  These two were Landers aftershocks.  Although
  32.     the two active aftershock zones, Northridge and Landers, are both
  33.     still very clear on the seismicity map, these two were the only
  34.     events this week of any significance.
  35.         Also, a small quake (M2.5) in the Santa Ana Mtns. was lightly
  36.     felt last night.  Like the offshore quakes, it was part of our
  37.     routine seismic activity and not an aftershock.
  38.         The table lists the quakes this week that were M2.0 or 
  39.     larger in the central part of the coverage area.  Times are local 
  40.     times; if you want Greenwich Mean Time, add 7 hrs to the Pacific 
  41.     Daylight Time or 8 hrs to the Pacific Standard Time listed.
