ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. How to use the program ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This section describes how to use the program.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.1. Start ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
It's necessary to change the OS2COM.INI to your needs!
How to use the OS2COM.INI is described in this manual and in the original
OS2COM.INI delivered with the program. Every line is commented and should give
you all the help you need to understand what it does.
However, there's a section with a detailed explanation in this manual.
The OS/2-Commander should be started with the OS2C.CMD.
This is the only way to change to the current drive and directory when leaving
the program. If you don't need it (e.g. if running in a window) of course you
can run it by starting the OS2COM.EXE directly.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2. The keys ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
CURSOR-Up/Down (or mouse) moves through the files.
CURSOR-Left/Right moves the cursor in the command line.
If the command line is empty, you can use CURSOR_Left/Right to change a
directory up/down. Use CTRL-CURSOR_Left/Right in a Brief-List.
CTRL-END moves the cursor to the end of the command line.
CTRL-HOME moves the cursor to the beginning of the command line.
ENTER or mouse double-click changes into the directory the cursor is actual on,
starts a program, changes inside an archive or starts a program linked to the
extension. See OS2COM.INI for more information.
If the comand line is not empty, ENTER executes the command, ESC erases the
command line.
ALT-ENTER also starts programs, but Commander will launch a new task for it.
INSERT or right mouse button tags an entry.
SPACE tags an entry, if the command line is empty.
F1 open the Help window
F2 User menu. See OS2COM.MNU for more information.
F3 Viewer (internal or external). See OS2COM.INI for more information.
F4 Editor (internal or external). See OS2COM.INI for more information.
F5 copy a file, a number of selected files or a directory tree.
SHIFT-F5 to copy additional to the file also the entry in the FILES.BBS.
F6 rename or move a file, a number of selected files or a directory tree.
SHIFT-F6 to move additional to the file also the entry in the FILES.BBS.
F7 creates a new directory
F8 kill a file, a number of selected files or a directory tree.

SHIFT-F8 kills additional to the file also the entry in the FILES.BBS.
F9 pulldown menu
F10 or ESC to quit.
F11 open file-menu
F12 open command-menu
TAB change between left and right window.
+ (grey) or CTRL-<+> select files.
- (grey) or CTRL-<-> unselect files.
* invert selection
ALT-F1 change drive (left window).
ALT-F2 change drive (right window).
ALT-F3 Viewer (internal or external). See OS2COM.INI for more information.
ALT-F4 Editor (internal or external). See OS2COM.INI for more information.
ALT-F5 archive the tagged files.
ALT-F6 show directory macros (currently stored pathes).
ALT-F7 starts the Find-function.
You can enter the filename to search for. If you append the parameter /a to
the filename OS/2-Commander will search for the files on all drives. Than you
can enter a text to search for in these files.
You get a list of all files that matches your search criterion and have now the
possibility to change to a drive and directory of a found file. You can also
view the files in this list, tag the files and copy, move or delete all or some
of the found files.
You can tag files with INS or SPACE. If the scrollbar in on a directory, the
selection for all files in it will be inverted. With "+" you can select all
files, "-" will deselect all files, "*" will invert the selection of all files.
ALT-F8 history window of the last 20 commands.
RETURN or left mouse button executes the command, CTRL-RETURN puts the
command to the command line.
ALT-F9 Video-mode If you've trouble with 30 or 34 lines since OS/2 2.1
March-beta try ALT-F9 to solve it.
ALT-F10 Directory-Tree. CTRL-Enter brings you to the next matching entry if a
search string is entered.
ALT-<letter> moves the cursor to the next entry starting with this letter.
CTRL-Enter brings you to the next matching file. See OS2COM.INI for more
information.
ALT-[0-9] change to directory stored under that number
SHIFT-ALT-[0-9] store current path under that number
CTRL-F1 to CTRL-F5 sorts the active window by name, extension, date, size or
unsorted.
CTRL-F6 to switch to a number of video modes.
CTRL-F7 Warp to directory.
Use CTRL-F7 or type "WCD <dirname>" to change to a directory directly across
all drives if you have the program WCD and a WCD database on your disk. All WCD
environment switches are supported. Please read the WCD manual for more
information. The OS/2-Commander does not support an WCD database update yet,
I'll do this in a future version.

CTRL-F9 Diskcopy
CTRL-\ (CTRL-# on german keyboards) to switch to the root-directory
CTRL-A shows the listing of self-extracting archives.
CTRL-C kill archive coments. Works only inside a ZIP or ARJ archive.
CTRL-D switches the 'DesInfo' default. Show 4OS2/4DOS descriptions in the
DESCRIPT.ION file ON/OFF.
CTRL-E is scrolling through the command-history
CTRL-Cursor_Up can be used as a History-Search-Function similar to CTRL-E. If
you want to get back a special command out of the history you can enter the
beginning of the command and get the command back with CTRL-Cursor_Up.
CTRL-Cursor_Down like CTRL-Cursor_Up, but search backwards.
CTRL-F change file attribute, date and time.
CTRL-G switches between ascending and descending sorting
CTRL-H show hidden files on/off. Default can be defined in the OS2COM.INI.
CTRL-I switches FILES.BBS-Info. If ON the descriptions of files are shown if
there is a FILES.BBS in the current directory and the opposite window is the
Info-window. Can be turned on at default in the OS2COM.INI.
CTRL-J puts the filename under the cursor to the command line.
CTRL-K print the file
CTRL-L switches the inactive window between 'Info' and 'Filelist'.
CTRL-N compares two directories.
CTRL-O switch of the screen (show background).
CTRL-Q Quick View (files/bytes of a directory). Works only when the cursor is
on a subdirectory.
