  2. This is the release of the IN-2000 Advanced SCSI Programming
  3. Interface (ASPI) Manager for DOS.  The ASPI Manager is an 
  4. industry standard software "front end" that allows the 
  5. IN-2000 SCSI host adapter to run any ASPI compliant software
  6. package (eg. CorelSCSI!, Central Point Utilities, Sytos Plus etc.).

  8. Follow the instructions below for installation of the IN-2000
  9. ASPI Manager for DOS.
  10.  
  11. This version of the IN-2000 ASPI manager (VCN: 461-13.14) has two command 
  12. line switches available: "/s" to enable synchronous transfers and "/d" to
  13. disable disconnect/reselect.

  15. THIS VERSION OF THE ASPI MAMAGER IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH BIOS VER VCN:1-03.56.

  17. Copy the file ASPIDRVR.SYS to your boot drive and add the
  18. following line to your CONFIG.SYS as follows:
  19.  
  20.         DEVICE=d:\path\ASPIDRVR.SYS [/s] [/d]
  21.  
  22.         where d:\path is the drive and directory to which you copied the 
  23.         ASPI manager.
  24.  
  25. You may wish to enable synchronous transfers to gain higher performance with
  26. "synchronous capable" SCSI devices.  However, there are some "synchronous 
  27. capable" SCSI devices (usually CD-ROM drives) that do not handle synchronous
  28. negotiations the same as most synchronous devices.  With these devices, 
  29. synchronous support should remain disabled (default).
  30.  
  31. There are only a few SCSI devices that will not support disconnect/reselect. 
  32. If you have one or these devices, you must use the "/d" switch to disable 
  33. that feature from the ASPI manager.  If you do not disable 
  34. disconnect/reselect with any of these non-supported devices, the ASPI manager
  35. will probably hang durring boot.

  37. NOTES:
  38. ======

  40. Up to four IN-2000 SCSI host adapter boards may be installed in
  41. a system running the ASPI Manager.  Only the one set to the
  42. lowest BIOS address will support hard disks.
  43.  
  44. The ASPI Manager requires that an interrupt channel on the
  45. IN-2000 be enabled.  Switches 5, 6 and 7 select the interrupt 
  46. channel.  Refer to the Installation Guide.
  47.  
  48. BIOS VCN:1-03 and later supports up to 7 SCSI hard drives 
  49. under DOS 5.0 and 6.0 without the need for a loadable device 
  50. driver.  Switch 8 = "ON" enables multiple drive support.  
  51. See the IN-2000 Installation Guide for more information 
  52. and/or check the ALWAYS BBS (818) 597-0275 for a BIOS update.

  54. Make certain to load any caching software (SMARTDRIVE, VCACHE,
  55. PC-KWIK etc.) after the ASPI Manager.  Most of these packages
  56. work by hooking the disk interrupt (Int 13h), which is replaced
  57. by the ASPI Manager.

  59. Once the ASPI Manager is loaded DO NOT use any applications
  60. which use the old IN-2000 SCSI Shell.  Such applications
  61. include: Always' CD-ROM driver, NovaStor's NovaBack (ver 3.56D
  62. and earlier), IN-2000 drivers (with BIOS enabled) and Always'
  63. supplied Sytos PLUS drivers.  Both NovaBack and Sytos PLUS are
  64. shipped with ASPI compatible tape drivers that work with the
  65. IN-2000 ASPI Manager.  A CD-ROM driver will be released in the
  66. near future that is compatible with ASPI.

  68. DO NOT use the IN-2000 BIOS diagnostic or low level format
  69. functions (from DEBUG) while the ASPI Manager is loaded.  To
  70. perform diagnostics and/or to low level format a hard disk temp-
  71. orarily remove the ASPI manager from CONFIG.SYS.

  73. The ASPI Manager requires Hardware Revision 2.7 (An 8 pin
  74. socketed chip) on the IN-2000 SCSI host adapter.  If you do not
  75. have this Hardware Version, contact Technical Support for
  76. upgrades (818) 597-1400.
